Returns

Returns

Most people do something with an end in mind.

Some for money, some for fame, some for relationship, some for fitness, some for development, some for personal satisfaction.

They all look for returns. Returns on time, effort, or money.

While this is as simple as it sounds, and appears as innocuous as a universal rule of life, it can actually be the biggest reason for underachievement.

Science creates solutions. People create mantras. And they get universally applied by the people at large.

But people should pause and think.

If solutions were black and white, then all doctors should be able to heal uniformly. But we see two doctors with same technical qualifications differ vastly in their results.

So, what are the problems with these solutions?

The problems are human.

Robots and machines can be programmed to work uniformly and deliver consistently. But people with the same capabilities, perform differently.

Input

Humans grasp and apply differently. Some grasp lesser, but apply better. Some grasp a lot, but fail to apply. This permutation and combination creates a whole spectrum of greys between the black and the white.

Output

Diagnosis is not the end, but the start of the solution. And many are guilty of either underestimating the effort required to make it happen, or giving up in anticipation of faster returns. Some opportunities deliver faster, but most take time.

So expectation of returns is not only human, but a great motivation. But expecting them without due efforts can derail the motivation.

The irony is the very reason to succeed actually becomes the reason for failure.

Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be - Zig Ziglar
