It is wonderful to see a return to some form of normality. There is huge excitement for the re-opening of sports, retail and of course the beloved hairdressers!
However, some people are feeling nervous and overwhelmed at the thought of a return to ‘normal’ life. Some of my coaching clients have expressed feelings of stress and anxiousness as they adjust to the new pace of life. Resurfacing to a post-Covid world may be easier for some than for others.
I believe there are a few reasons behind this;
- Some individual’s working hours increased over the past 15 months, either due to the demands of their job or because other social activities and human interaction were not available to them so they began to work longer hours. They are now trying to scale back their working hours to be able to fit in sports and other activities which can cause stress and a sense of overwhelm for some.
- For other individuals, they have gone from zero to 100 overnight. Both their own, and their families extracurricular activities have returned, which means evenings full of creating schedules, organising lifts and packing bags for the various activities. The juggle is a struggle for some! Again, causing that sense of overwhelm, exhaustion and tension for some.
- Finally, some individuals have become accustomed to the slower pace of life and the return to normality is as difficult as the transition to instant lockdown last year for them. It will take time to fully re-adjust to the faster pace of life.
It makes me think, have we jumped straight back in to our pre-Covid lives? Have we stopped to reflect on the elements of Covid life which we enjoyed? Have we made a plan to continue these in our post-Covid lives?
Look at your own situation and ask yourself:
- Have you gone back to your pre-Covid life?
- What did you love that you want to remain in place?
Remember, you ultimately have control over your life.
If you are experiencing stress, anxiousness, overwhelm or are nervous about a full return to ‘normal’ life, there are some tools and techniques which can help. This week I will go through my top three tips for a calmer, relaxed life.
I am working with several coaching clients in this space. If you, or anyone in your life, are experiencing anything mentioned in this email, please do reach out to me. We can have a complimentary exploration call and decide if coaching will benefit you and your current situation.
