Return vs Investment

Return vs Investment

Lots happening in telecom world these days, many are looking at carrier WiFi to be the perfect partner of cellular for traffic sharing and always connected user experience. There are some who are insisting on new technologies such as LTE-U/LAA. All in all we are moving from densification to Ultra densification of networks with more speed (Giga/Gbps), low latency, and true HetNet with all kinds of small cells, 5G and now latest to the trend are connected cars.

Many would not have thought about all these, few years back. Or maybe people would have they were just waiting for the right time. Traffic demands and QOE (quality of experience) has given birth to not only having coverage footprint everywhere but also managing the capacity in every possible way with every possible solution/option out there.

So what is/are the driving force/s: traffic, users, footprint or Return on investment? I was going through a webinar when I heard this term for the first time. There are many aspects of looking at evolution, I mean all the driving forces as mentioned earlier play an important role no doubt.

But if I try to look from operator's point of view , if the output is not as expected will the operator continue to drive it? I am not sure, I guess thus it is very important to understand where and how we need to dimension the network, what is driving and where it leads to..
