The Return of the Professional PLM White Paper
The Professional PLM White Paper is the starting point for the new Industry Panel that is being formed to discuss the possibilities of a future profession.
The International Panel will start work in the New Year .? When experienced practitioners come together, they want to hit the ground running, and the White Paper means that they can do so.
Forged after nine weeks of feedback and four iterations in 2023, and at more than 20 pages, the White Paper covers the whole subject and embodies the latest collective thought.?
The Panel is a 'Round Table' group whose members work with each other carefully and thoroughly, in confidence and without disruption.? Their primary consideration is how establishing a profession will affect their organisations, the marketplace, and the future of the industry. The White Paper goes straight to the source of the arguments.
The White Paper is an excellent starting point because it is deliberately comprehensive.? It would have been easy to follow the 'Gen Z' trend of tiny attention spans, but PLM is a complex subject.?
The White Paper is not only a Position Statement but also a reference document.? It explains the thinking behind professionalism in terms of a Vision, structure, benefits to industry, benefits to practitioners, benefits to education and academia, the body of knowledge and the deliverables.? It provides a clear definition of where the PLM industry should be heading.
It's easy to read.? It makes perfect sense.? And it is where the Panel will start in January.
You can download the White Paper from the Professional PLM web site and see for yourself what the Panel will be working with.? The inaugural meeting is scheduled for the end of? January 2025, but Panel members will be given their briefing at the beginning of the month - because we want to hit the ground running.
You can join the Panel by downloading the Datasheet from the PLMIG web site and completing the Enrolment Form contained within it.? The approach is entirely open, and has been kept as simple as possible.? As the Panel meets every few weeks, and generates an increasing consensus of opinion via the Summary Documents, its members' ideas will build an industry focus that can influence the future direction of PLM.? It all starts in January.
