A return to normality, or the "new normal".

As we see the world opening its doors to a ‘new normal’, we see a new adoption of technology, or a forced adoption if you will, that will make the return to the workplace as normal as possible.
In a study done by VergeSense - 2021 Workplace Impact Report, 1000 companies were surveyed on their expected return to work strategies.
Companies are looking to technology to solve their return to work or distance control strategies. Unsurprisingly, IoT can play a massive role in this transition. Connected workers, assets, and buildings are key factors in the transformation of traditional to hybrid, or even automated buildings.
The transformation layer of all these ideas in hybrid systems can be seen in current implementations of large organizations that take the lead in digital transformation. One of the greatest smart to hybrid systems I have seen thus far is an example by IoT.nxt – a digital building implementation. Some of the highlights include:
Digital Buildings
When a room or space is only allowed a certain amount of personnel, we can raise the issue of overcrowded rooms once that set amount has been exceeded. It is also great for understanding the cleaning requirements. The more a room is used, the more cleaning is required, thus utilizing the cleaning staff more effectively.
Understanding how rooms and breakout spaces are being used helps one understand the space utilization and key bottleneck areas.
Talking about occupancy, a great CCTV alternative was deployed to track the movement of people in the building and understand occupancy in 3D space, something I haven't seen at any other smart building deployment, nice.
In the same style, we can also see the movement of people across different floor zones, again, making it simpler to understand utilization, bottlenecks, and effective use of cleaning services.
You may also be wondering how these companies have transitioned to full digital transformation amidst a pandemic.
The answer included an IoT solution. Safe entry and screening were the key factors driving the return to the office. By using thermal cameras and combinations for smaller buildings with thermal scanners, entry was guaranteed, only allowing entry for staff that meet the requirements.
A video of the solution can be seen here ...
The ‘new normal’ seems like a great discovery in connected people, safer environments, and more ecologically friendlier zones. We can now put under the microscope the buildings, space wastage, and a clear roadmap to improved utilization of what we have and what we can live without.
More and more companies are moving to hybrid and smart systems, and thanks to the forced adoption of technology, we have leapfrogged civilization into the future of digitization. will you be left behind?
