A Return to Normalcy
Last week, the Nanjing High School students of Jiangsu Province organized a remarkable student-led event. Initially, I harbored skepticism about students spearheading such an initiative for our school. However, my reservations dissipated after witnessing the captivating performances during the event's opening act.
The event featured diverse talents, including musicians, singers, dancers, and captivating dramatic scenes. Witnessing our students showcase their abilities on stage provided a refreshing glimpse into their multifaceted talents beyond the confines of the classroom. It served as a poignant reminder that, amidst our relentless pursuit of academic excellence, we must also invest time creating memorable experiences that will resonate with our students for a lifetime.
Our campus often becomes engrossed in pursuing exceptional exam results, sometimes neglecting the importance of fostering a holistic and enriching educational environment. This event served as a much-needed deviation from the norm, allowing our students to express themselves creatively and share their unique gifts with the school community.

As the event drew close, I felt honored to congratulate all the participants. Their willingness to step onto the stage demonstrated tremendous courage and resilience. In China, the impact of COVID-19 has been profound, significantly altering the landscape of education and daily life. The challenges of online classes and lockdowns made teaching and living a demanding endeavor. Events like the Winter Concert provided a sense of normalcy for our students, staff, and community, offering a welcome respite from the challenges imposed by the pandemic.
