We often hear about the difficulties of being young and broke, but it's crucial to recognize that it's worse to be old and broke. Our financial responsibilities and needs change significantly as we age, and we, often, don't take into account things like medical expenses, wanting to travel, and inflation. This emphasizes the necessity of early planning and strategic preparation. The comfort and security of our retirement truly depend on the actions we take today.
In my role as a Financial Advisor, I have seen the struggle that those of us who didn't plan appropriately are now facing. They are running out of money and having to come up with ways to make money now that they're in their mid-to-late 60's. We know that the average person is living to be in their mid-80s, that's 20-years of income that they didn't appropriately plan for.
What's even worse is when I run into families that thought they were working with a financial professional, but in fact, they were working with an insurance agent. Only to find out now, that they got sold a product that is not going to get them what they need in retirement. A lot of times, they'll say, my parents had this product, and their parents before them... the question then is, 'why haven't they passed down an inheritance??" Don't be fooled. Ensure that you're talking to a licensed financial professional (a fiduciary would be the best option).
We know that the rich work with people they trust to get ahead: CPAs/Accountants, Attorneys, Financial Advisors, etc. They have a team of professionals helping them achieve their goals. They get 'coaching'.
The broke call their uncle Bob, who used to work with a man who knows a lady that once visited a bank...
OR, they just want to save some money and do it themselves.
