How Can Leaders Balance Decisiveness with Compassion?
When organizations are under pressure, leaders are expected to act quickly, make firm decisions, and drive results. In those moments, it’s easy to think that pausing to reflect, listen, or support others is a luxury we can’t afford. But how can we ensure our teams’ well-being without compromising performance?
I’ve personally struggled with this in my leadership style.
Through Life Orientations (LIFO) , I became aware of my natural preferences under stress:
?? In high-pressure situations, I default to action—solving problems and getting things done.
?? But when working with my team, I prioritize understanding different perspectives and striving for excellence.
This creates a dilemma:
? Under stress, I take on too many tasks and don’t leave enough space to work collaboratively.
?? When focusing on team relationships, I find it hard to push for results.
Many of us are familiar with this kind of tension. That's why I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from Prof. Dr. Niko Kohls at our upcoming Community Exchange.
