Rethinking and Reimagining Generosity

What if all our organizations and businesses delivered on their missions and made us feel more alive and more human in the process?

We believe connected, transparent generosity is the key to unlock this vision. To collectively work towards creating a more beautiful world, we must rethink what generosity is and can be.

Generosity is not a one-way process from giver to receiver — despite what our old culture of philanthropy may say — but a fundamental human need and orientation towards life. Giving can be a vehicle for us to promote both our individual and collective well-being.

Why This Matters:

45% of nonprofit employees were planning to seek new jobs by 2025, and 30% of nonprofits fail to exist after 10 years (NANOE 2019). Our nonprofits are suffering.

And ironically, it’s largely because we underinvest in the places we have decided will be responsible for the bulk of our communal needs. The “nonprofit starvation cycle” keeps our most important organizations trying to deliver on massive missions with volunteer or low wage labor (The Atlantic 2016). We need effective social services now more than ever, but how do we move past scarcity practices towards sustainable organizations fueling healthy communities?

At the same time, our for-profit organizations are suffering in their own right — Zoom fatigue, the Great Resignation, #QuietQuitting. Research shows that a positive team culture is essential to employee retention and overall productivity, but how do we actually design a workplace that feels vibrant, connected, and full of purpose?

At Daymaker, we create opportunities for generosity to blossom, while transferring resources so every kid has the potential to lead a life of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. We’re deeply committed to re-envisioning how we give, so that a small seed of generosity might be fruitful for all. To do so, we make giving easy for companies, engaging for teams, and effective for communities.

A new way to give: connected, transparent, communal generosity

When we join together to practice generosity, it opens capacity for the work that needs doing in the world, brings connection into our daily lives and organizations, and builds communities where all belong.

  • Capacity: Through Daymaker’s one-to-one giving model, we connect nonprofits to value-aligned resource partners to contribute to the holistic development of the children they serve. When we partner with a nonprofit, we make a multi-year commitment and guarantee that every child on our platform receives a gift and/or experience from Daymaker. We take care of the logistics of sourcing, sorting, and shipping all donations, freeing up capacity for nonprofits.
  • Connection: 78% of employees who participate in employee giving campaigns through Daymaker report being happier to work at their company. Our easy-to-use platform allows dispersed teams to both make a local impact and feel connected in a company-wide campaign.
  • Community: We source our gifts and products from Black-owned businesses, woman-owned businesses, and small family-owned retailers — because every step of the giving process is an opportunity to support our community. About 40% of our products come from Black-owned businesses, and we’re always looking for amazing child-serving businesses we can connect with.

Moving forward with generosity:

This holiday season, our goal is to share the joy of creating possibilities for 10,000 children by partnering with 100 companies and 80 nonprofit partners — and ultimately build a movement for more connection and generosity, made stronger by everyone involved.

To get involved, schedule a demo or email [email protected] to learn more about partnering with Daymaker this holiday season. Your team and your community will thank you.
