English Summary

Migration and asylum are increasing global phenomena, leading to health disparities between migrant and host populations. Migrants move for various reasons such as improving living conditions, finding job or educational opportunities, and reuniting with family, while refugees need international protection due to fear of persecution, armed conflict, and serious threats to life or freedom. In 2020, about one billion people worldwide were migrating, with 281 million being international migrants. Migrants and refugees face insecurity and marginalization due to barriers such as language and cultural differences, discrimination, poor living conditions, and inadequate access to health services, resulting in lower physical and mental health. Policies must be developed and implemented to ensure equitable access to health services for migrants and refugees. Iran, hosting the largest number of refugees globally, has developed policies to provide health services to legal refugees, but undocumented migrants still face serious challenges.
