Rethinking Entry-Level Jobs: Experience Shouldn't Be a Barrier

At NFT Consult, we believe in the power of fresh talent. Yet, we see a troubling trend in the job market: entry-level positions requiring 3-5 years of experience. It's time to rethink what entry-level truly means.

The Purpose of Entry-Level Jobs

Entry-level jobs are designed to kick-start a career. They are meant to be the starting point for new graduates and those transitioning into new fields. Requiring prior experience defeats the purpose and excludes capable candidates from opportunities to prove themselves and grow.

Breaking Down the Barrier

Let's get one thing straight: an entry-level position should require zero years of experience. Not one year. Not two years. And certainly not three to five years.

By demanding years of experience for roles meant to be starting points, we are:

  • Limiting Opportunities: We exclude a vast pool of eager, capable candidates who could bring fresh perspectives and energy to our organizations.
  • Stifling Growth: We stymie the professional growth of young people who are ready to learn and develop their skills.
  • Perpetuating Inequality: We perpetuate a cycle where only those with connections or prior opportunities can advance.

Supporting Graduates with Real Opportunities

We recognize that many capable graduates are eager to start their careers but are held back by unrealistic job requirements. That's why NFT Consult is proud to run programs in partnership with Mastercard, encouraging employers to take on new graduates for a year. During this year, employers receive support, with the goal of hiring these graduates permanently after the program ends.

The Collective Benefit

Creating work opportunities for graduates is a collective effort that brings shared value to employers, employees, and the broader economy. Here’s how:

  • Employers: Gain access to fresh talent, new ideas, and the potential to shape the future leaders of their organizations.
  • Graduates: Receive the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop their skills, and start their careers on solid ground.
  • Economy: Benefits from a more dynamic and inclusive workforce, driving innovation and growth.

The NFT Consult Approach

At NFT Consult, we champion a hiring approach that values potential, passion, and the willingness to learn over previous job titles. Here’s how we are making a difference:

  • Skill-Based Hiring: We focus on the skills and attributes that matter most for the role, rather than the number of years on a resume.
  • Training and Development: We invest in comprehensive training programs to equip new hires with the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Mentorship Programs: We pair new employees with experienced mentors to guide them through their early career stages.

Join the Movement

We urge our fellow HR professionals and employers to reconsider the requirements for entry-level positions. Let’s spread the word and make entry-level jobs truly accessible to those at the beginning of their careers.

By doing so, we can unlock potential, drive innovation, and build a more inclusive and dynamic workforce.

At NFT Consult, we believe that everyone deserves a fair shot at their first job. It's time to give fresh talent the opportunity they deserve.
