Rethinking climate solutions | View | May 2023
Cambridge University Press & Assessment
We help millions of people worldwide to open opportunities and unlock their potential.
We know we need to act faster to prevent dangerous climate change, but how? Two new Cambridge books, No Miracles Needed by Mark Jacobson and Five Times Faster by Simon Sharpe, offer pragmatic solutions, involving technology, politics and diplomacy – tools that are already in our hands.?
But those tools depend on spreading knowledge – getting education and research right. As Jacobson writes: “the number one barrier to rapid rollout of a 100% renewable energy system is that most people are not aware that it’s possible”.??
That’s why sustainability has become a top priority through everything we do at Cambridge. From curriculum reform, including our GCSE in Natural History, to our role at the Festival of Education, to books that inspire and inform. We’re using our capabilities across global education to help address this most urgent set of challenges.

1 年I highly support the rethinking of climate solutions. Governments may find it hard to follow up with the mentioned suggestions. Some citizens even advocate and try to implement laws but later on form luxury and forget about the environment. Recent months showcase floods, water pollution and other signs of climatic change that endanger not only human but plant and animal species. Not only must we enforce laws such as 'Do not litter' or 'Do not use polythene bags' but rather enforce laws that are flexible and could be used at any time anywhere. ??

1 年Due to the suspension of the IELTS exam in our nation "Iran," I was forced to send a request to IDP, Cambridge, and all of the other IELTS partners here.? The IELTS exam has been suspended here for nearly 4 months due to unclear causes! Indeed, there could be nearly three steps to address the issue or at least force the Iranian leadership to pay attention to us! The first is to create more prospects in collaboration with facilities near our abroad territories, such as Turkey, particularly in Van City. The second step is to publish news about this issue on your website (ielts.org) in order to inform universities/companies where we have applied or will apply, because it is the only valid source to prove. The third goal is to bring to light the crisis that Iran's leadership has created for its people! They are no longer concerned, although the majority of us need to sit the IELTS exam as soon as possible.

1 年We can research all we like but what is required is a proper incentive which has been brilliantly described by Prof Dieter Helm in his book - were HM Government to take his advice and introduce a Carbon Tax applied at the Border and in the UK economy every business at home and abroad would be incentivised to save carbon through the power of the market.
