Rethink Your Job, or Prepare to Retire

Rethink Your Job, or Prepare to Retire

If you don't rethink your job each year, it's likely you're falling behind.

Today, I had the opportunity to present my new talk, "AI AI AI, What Happens to Our Ways of Working?" (free sign-up required for download) at the well-organized Agile Turkey Summit 2023. The core message of my presentation was that if you don't adapt to new ways of working, the world of work will leave you behind.

In my personal journey, I'm actively exploring the potential of AI. I'm experimenting with AI-generated videos to illustrate patterns in the unFIX model. I've incorporated AI-generated visuals and slides into my keynotes and presentations. Additionally, I've been using ChatGPT for several months now to assist me in my writing; it helps me with research, summaries, drafts, and style enhancements.

I will not be replaced by AI; I will be replaced by someone who makes better use of AI.

Or rephrased in a better way, I might replace the people who are ready for retirement.

I've observed a shift in the agile industry, with fewer two-day workshops, conferences, and events compared to pre-Covid times. There seems to be less demand for the ways in which we've been talking about agile in the past. This trend is likely to continue as the world of work keeps evolving.

There's no shortage of opportunities; in fact, the demand for business agility is greater than ever, especially with the integration of AI technologies everywhere. The nature of the work has changed, and it's essential to rethink your role in this evolving landscape.

I'm rethinking my role for 2024, as everyone should. I'm not ready for retirement, yet.

If your company needs help, let me know.

Jurgen, AI won’t replace/unfix humans anytime soon, but we have seen the demand for agile coaches, Tx, consultants decline whilst big consultancies still only push team level scrum and agile as a IT tech practice, there is a big gap there, scaling, industrialising, making agile ways of working work at bus mgt and leadership levels work as BusArch, Bus Model Innovation is lacking, many ask “dumb” ie how do I use design thinking in scrum or bloat about product dev and scrum, so 20 yrs old or are just discovering how to integrate DevOps eg no such thing as a DevOps team, what’s the future roles from your PoV, it seems we’ve gone back to just business change as agile is dead and agility hasn’t arisen despite being last decades focus eg agile businesses and so much confusion over methods, op models vs org, bus and ent agility that are poorly understood and talked about by expert SME consultancies and hardly any real agile reorganisations have happened bearacruacy is still king of org design, governance and control. Good agile teams don’t need dedicated Scrum Masters with such I shaped skill profiles, yet only role HR supports and ChatGP is a better Scrum Master than many I’ve witnessed practice. Thoughts? What roles are left?
