Retention vs HealthSeekers, Education feedback, and Scotland

September 2024?GGFit Newsletter

Early feedback for the Membership Retention Essentials education course is in, and it's very positive! To celebrate, we're heading to Scotland for Active-Net to spread the word and support our partners in training, Future Fit for Business.

This month's article compares the work we do on HealthSeekers and Retention projects, and (spoiler alert) concludes they're achieving many of the the same ends.

If you have any questions at all, please get in touch, or comment below.

Retention Education Training Suite feedback

Here's what people are saying about the first course in the new Retention Education Suite that we've developed with FutureFit for Business

Membership Retention Essentials

  • Really well aimed education for staff to better understand their role in terms of effectiveness. A really good breakdown of how all roles work together to provide an experience. Trying to teach people skills and developing staff towards better levels of service is one of the hardest parts of the gym industry. This course was really good at emphasising that staff need to be GENUINE instead of robotic. It covers a large array of topics and scenarios that happen daily in every gym. Sales and Retention Manager, Enable Leisure & Culture Trust ?
  • The course was full of great information in terms of retention, it did take me longer than the 45 minutes specified, but was worth it. The course covered 'retention' in great detail and was easily understood. The way in which the course is set up, means that anyone with or without a fitness background would understand and be able to use the information for their day to day job roles. Service, Sales and Retention Officer,?North Warks Council ?
  • Informative course, with simple but useful data. This course is great for all leisure and wellbeing staff. Specialist Wellness Coach, Wigan Council ?
  • I found the course very interesting and easy to follow. Good videos and pictures to support the course material. I would recommend this course to people in the Leisure Industry because there is valuable and interesting information about Retention which is so important in this Industry. Group Fitness Manager, Club Kingswood ?
  • I think in such a short amount of time the course is very beneficial. I could see something like this being used by a business as part of the induction process for new staff. It is very beneficial, especially for new staff, to understand a bit more about retention and the reasons we are so keen to drive it Area Manager,?NR Health Clubs ?

This first course covers high-level reasons behind retention focus, stats and actions that improve retention. It is written for anyone and everyone working in fitness or leisure, it provides an understanding of the subject, and encourages staff purpose. It leads into the Core Retention Knowledge course.

HealthSeekers as a Retention Strategy

Implementing a HealthSeeker project can significantly boost member retention for fitness clubs.

While many gyms focus on upselling or premium memberships, the HealthSeekers model offers a fresh approach, prioritizing long-term engagement over quick gains. By thinking beyond traditional membership structures, fitness operators can discover numerous direct and indirect benefits, from reducing attrition to enhancing the overall member experience.

HealthSeekers comes from Retention

The HealthSeekers movement has developed out of retention projects. Members who have an initial body composition scan are more motivated, and those who have regular measurements stay longer.

Encouraging new members to undergo a body scan during their induction, followed by regular reviews, is a simple yet highly effective way to boost retention. This service not only keeps members engaged but also provides valuable insights into their health and progress.

Making better use of these devices, and of our great staff resource is where the HealthSeeker concept started. Why not offer this service to more people – non-members who want to be healthier, or just want to better understand their health?
