Motivating Next Gen Talent

There’s a big struggle happening to successfully getting and keeping current leaders and our next generation energized, excited, engaged, and on the same page. I talk recently with Peter Atherton, host of AEC Leadership Today Podcast, and executive coach (we met at ACEC WA conference this spring) about:

  • Changes due to COVID
  • The loss of energy as a result of both COVID and change
  • The new – and different – generational “playbooks” related to work and life
  • The challenges with finding and retaining good talent, and
  • The critical roles of culture, time, straight talk, sharing “the?why?part”, and being open

Check it out?and let me know what you’re doing in your firm to recruit and retain young generations.

Early Reviews of?Coaching and Mentoring For Dummies

I spent about 8 months revising?Coaching and Mentoring For Dummies. Now that’s it out, it’s nice to see people are finding it useful.

  • "As a manager for seven years I?still?found Coaching & Mentoring useful. It is a great resource, covering nearly every topic on leadership in the area of working with people. But it is written in easy-to-read bite-sized chunks. I found myself reading a page, and having to put it down because there was so much that was relevant to one situation or another. This second edition is also very up to date, having been written after COVID and acknowledging the culture the younger generation is bringing to the workforce." -?Alan
  • "Coaching and Mentoring for Dummies is a fantastic, in-depth and "real-world" guide to leading your organization. The book is loaded with practical and applicable lessons and tips that leverage your emotional intelligence to help lead employees. If you use a highlighter to identify important tips (like I do) you should have an extra on-hand!" -?Tim Ganey

How’s Your Summer?

My wife and I decided to throw some things in the back of the car and go camping on Mt. Hood. No problem getting a camp spot. Highlight: meeting Pacific Crest Trail hikers from New Jersey, Maine, Florida, North Carolina and Sweden. What I learned: you really need to boil the water for those Mountain House freeze dried dinners. Nothing like chewy Mac and Cheese...
