Retain control of your domain with Tickbox

Changes to Australian domain naming and licensing mean Australian organisations can now register a new category of domain name which is shorter, simpler and ends in .au rather than .com.au, .net.au, .org.au, .gov.au or .edu.au.

New Criteria

The licensing change requires that organisations with a .au domain prove an Australian presence and other criteria. If you don’t meet the criteria, you risk your current domain name being cancelled. The new domain category has a six month allocation period. If you fail to apply for a new .au direct domain within this time, you run the risk of missing out on securing your preferred domain name.

New Risks

While the new domain name provides an opportunity for you to expand your online presence, it also creates a new opportunity for cybercriminals. If they register your .au domain name, they could try to impersonate your business.

No Worries

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) recommends all Australian organisations register their .au equivalents by visiting an auDA accredited registrar within the allocation period.
