Retail Notes From April
Alright what can I say about what went on in April since I have been away from this site? Not really a whole lot to say since I didn't write in here earlier. In fact I was going to write this newsletter at the beginning of this month but I guess I got a bit busy thinking about the whole scope of retail and where it is headed towards the future. Anyway, now that I am here I am going to do the best I can to try and recall as to what happened last month.
First off I am going to talk about the closure of a restaurant in this shopping center which I thought was doing good business. Montana's restaurant closed its doors for good since sometime ago the owners probably weren't able to pay their rent or to keep their business afloat which is hard to do in today's market with inflation climbing higher than ever before. Running a restaurant these days seems to be a tough business.
The managers of Montana's found that out apparently since looking at the building I have to say that the rent for this place was high. Plus, they were facing a lot of competition from other restaurants that probably had better food and products. Now, I am not sure exactly why they closed or converted themselves maybe to just a take out place but the big sign I have seen a couple of days ago is very telling to myself and others.

With that said I am going to talk about what has been happening so far. Last month or a couple of months ago I said that Nordstrom's is about to leave Canada after they sell or liquidate their assets and maybe forget about the Canadian market altogether. This will be the second American retailer to have shut their doors in Canada after Target Inc. When I rode my bike near Chinook Center I have seen the signs at the store saying Store Closing.
So, that's pretty much all I have for now in retail this month. See you in June
