S Group to expand robot delivery to more than 100 stores.?
After a pilot in 2022, S Group expanded the service to almost 50 stores during the year, but now plans to extend this to more stores by the end of 2024. The robot delivery can be ordered through the S-kaupat app and mainly service Alepa and Sale convenience stores, as well as some larger formats. S Group said that most orders are made by families with children under school age and single households. Saturday is the most popular day for orders, with most made in the evenings.
Mercadona reaches new milestone in Portugal.?
The Spanish retailer entered the Portuguese market back in July 2019 and has now reached a total of 50 stores. The retailer is expected to complete 2024 with 60 stores, opening 11 stores throughout the year in total. As well as new stores, Mercadona will launch its new Almeirim logistics warehouse this year, which will become Mercadona’s largest distribution centre on the Iberian Peninsula.
Conad launches second autonomous store in Italy. ?
The store is called “Prendi e Vai” and is virtually identical to the first one, which opened in late 2023. The key difference in the new store, which has opened in Trento, is the inclusion of smart scales that identify fruit and vegetable using Artificial Intelligence. The opening follows the success of the first store, which has welcomed over 60,000 customers in the last 6 months.

?abka Polska to take on fast food chains in Poland.?
From 22nd May,?Zabka?will launch a new ‘Street Food’ campaign as it introduces a wider range of hot food to go options to its stores. The extended range includes loaded fries, burgers, chicken nuggets, wraps, paninis and hotdogs. To support the launch, it has opened two ‘quick service stores’ in Warsaw and Poznan that showcase the new range. It expects the new offer to be in over 5,000 stores by the end of the month.
