Lidl Espa?a announces its success with anti-waste bags.
The discounter introduced anti-waste bags in 2023, for fruit and vegetables that do not meet aesthetic standards, as well as unharmed products where packaging was damaged in transit. The anti-waste bags weigh up to 5kg and cost €3. In the first year, Lidl avoided 1,500 tonnes of food waste and for the second year will donate 100% of the value collected from the anti-wate bags to a food bank charity.?
ALDI SüD celebrates anniversary of MeinAldi grocery delivery service.
In?Germany, Aldi Süd’s grocery ecommerce service is turning one, and the discounter is offering shoppers various incentives to mark the occasion. After registering on a dedicated website, shoppers will receive a free gift with every transaction, a special discount after three uses of the online delivery services, and an additional surprise gift after five uses. Users will also be entered into a competition to win a €1,000 travel gift voucher, with improved chances of winning with every use of the service.
Dutch retailer Jumbo Supermarkten opens Jumbo Foodmarkt store in Ghent, Belgium.
The supermarket delivers experiential retailing over 3,000 sq m and is Jumbo’s largest store in the market. The store celebrates freshly prepared food, including that developed by its in-house Food college. Elsewhere, the store’s ‘make it, take it, eat it’ philosophy provides options for customers looking to cook a recipe at home, purchase something ready-made or eat in the store’s Foodcafé, which can seat 60. More widely, there is an emphasis on fresh, local food, which extends to over 2,500 products.

亚马逊 pilots three sustainability initiatives in Spain.
Amazon has announced it will develop three of the ten start-ups, who won the third edition of the Amazon sustainability accelerator programme in Spain. The startups will focus on heat transfer and water saving technology in the SVQ1 logistics centre based in Seville. Another start up is focusing on improving the efficiency of Amazon’s solar panels at the centre by 15%. The pilots will vary in length, but once the trials are completed Amazon will evaluate three factors; environmental impact, financial viability and overall effectiveness.

One question that's coming up more and more: Are we approaching the point where these companies begin to risk consumer fatigue from the relentless eco-friendly messaging, possibly detracting from convenience or affordability?
