Poland’s DRS scheme to start from 1st January 2025.?

The?Polish?government has confirmed the planned deposit return scheme will commence from the start of next year, despite concerns about the timescale from suppliers. The scheme will cover single-use beverage containers including disposable plastic bottles, reusable glass bottles and metal cans.


Monoprix and Franprix invest in smart carts in Paris.

At the start of August, Franprix launched 10 Cust2Mate smart carts in its store in Paris’s 17th arrondissement. Monoprix has also launched five smart carts, at its Monop’ store, 148 Malakoff Avenue. Both retailers plan to implement the technology from A2Z Smart Technologies, to around 20 stores.?


家乐福 Belgium uses AI to manage food waste.

Carrefour has partnered with Deligate , a Swedish expert in food technology and food waste. The partnership will see the launch of a new expiration tracking tool to improve the inventory management. Carrefour will have more control over its inventory, meaning effectively implementing discounts on products reaching the end of their shelf life. The tracking tool will improve daily routines of more than 300 employees saving time, which can be dedicated to improving the shopper experience in-store.?


Aldi launches surprise campaign in Poland.

Shoppers who use the InPost lockers at select stores in Katowice and Wroc?aw may find a surprise Cola River can in the locker. The private label drink is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year but has not been available in Poland until now. Shoppers are encouraged to share if they find a can on social media.

IGD (Institute of Grocery Distribution) - European businesses are uniquely challenged by strict sustainability regulations. It would be nice to see a post that compared burdens by global region.
