ALDI SüD and Lidl in Deutschland invests in tech and organic ranges in?Austria.?

Aldi, which operates under the brand HOFER ?sterreich in the market, is testing smart carts in its Sattledt store. The 15 carts are Casper Carts, by Instacart, and shoppers can scan products and pay (card only) at a dedicated checkout point. The trial will run until the end of the year. Competitor Lidl is taking a different approach to entice shoppers into its stores, by lowering the prices of 350 organic fruit and vegetables. It has also lowered the price for over 100 products across its organic “ein gutes Stück Heimat” private label range by 25%.


Kaufland ?joins the AgeCore buying alliance.?

The?German?retailer has left EMD and joined AgeCore, consisting of existing members Colruyt Group (Belgium), Conad (Italy), Eroski (Spain) and Co-op Switzerland. The groups long-term focus on sustainability, digitisation and innovation align to Kaufland’s strategic ambitions.


Wolt expands grocery quick commerce in Germany.?

The Finnish quick commerce specialist is expanding its Wolt Market offer to Hamburg. The service offers locally sourced and branded products delivered from its own dark store, in as little as 30 minutes. It currently operates three other Wolt Market dark stores in Berlin and provides quick commerce services for selected EDEKA IT stores in Hamburg.


欧尚 launches its first smart warehouse powered by Ocado.?

The Spanish retailer has invested in the robotic Customer Fulfilment Center (CFC), in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid). The warehouse is 27,500 sq m and features Ocado’s latest technology such as Automated Frameload and On-Grid Robotic Picking. The CFC will be used to prepare online orders for the community of Madrid and part of Castilla-La Mancha. The warehouse will be able to prepare 70,000 orders per week, which will be delivered in electric or hybrid vehicles.
