Resveratrol-Did You Know?

Did You Know????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Resveratrol: Major Bioavailability Issues, Dangers Of High Doses, & The Money You Waste?

Since the early 1990s, researchers have been studying the potential health effects of resveratrol after its presence in red wine was confirmed. It was hypothesized that moderate consumption of red wine, which contains resveratrol, could help explain the "French Paradox"—the low incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in the French population despite their consumption of high-fat foods. Since then, numerous studies have explored the potential of resveratrol in preventing cancer, delaying the onset of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, improving glycemic control in type 2 diabetes, and extending lifespan in experimental models. These findings continue to generate scientific interest.

As to resveratrol, the key stage of it’s efficiency and efficacy is oral bioavailability and accessibility to cells.?This involves the release of resveratrol from a carrier in gastrointestinal fluids, solubilization and interaction with other gastrointestinal fluids, absorption by the epithelial layer, and the chemical and biochemical transformations into epithelial cells. In addition to these, the bioavailability of resveratrol is also affected by enzymatic degradation that occurs in both the intestines and liver.?In the liver, first-pass metabolism can easily degrade resveratrol yielding very little of the intact active ingredient for delivery to cells of the body.?This is known as absolute bioavailability. Absolute bioavailability refers to the extent to which a substance is absorbed into the systemic circulation and becomes available to exert its intended effect. It is a pharmacokinetic parameter that compares the systemic exposure of a substance after oral administration, absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, metabolism in the liver, and potential elimination before reaching the systemic circulation.

Throughout the literature, many studies have demonstrated that the absolute bioavailability of resveratrol is less than 1%. This means that less than 1% of the resveratrol that is taken orally is absorbed into the bloodstream. The rest of the resveratrol is either metabolized by the liver or excreted in the urine.?For consumers, this unfortunate issue translates to only providing less than 5mgs of resveratrol for cells after taking 500mg of pure resveratrol! This is alarming from a cost point of view when you understand that you are paying for 495mgs you will never benefit from!, The low absolute bioavailability of resveratrol is a major limitation to its efficacy and use as a dietary supplement. In addition, for those who believe that the metabolites from resveratrol degradation are beneficial to the body, think again as some studies have suggested that resveratrol metabolites may be toxic.

Resveratrol metabolites can be toxic in a number of ways. One way is through oxidative stress. Resveratrol metabolites can increase the production of free radicals, which can lead to oxidative stress. One study found that o-quinone metabolites of resveratrol cause oxidative stress, damage to cells in the skin, and can inhibit the activity of certain enzymes that are important for liver function. Another way that resveratrol metabolites can be toxic is through alkylation. Alkylation is a process by which a molecule attaches to another molecule, usually by a carbon-carbon bond. Resveratrol metabolites can alkylate proteins, DNA, damage other molecules in the body, and contribute to cell death. Lastly, resveratrol metabolites can also be toxic by inhibiting the activity of enzymes that are important for liver function, heart function, and other bodily processes that can lead to a variety of health problems.

Scientists at Verdant Nature developed?a game-changing delivery system called BioSNEDS??that dramatically boosts the oral bioavailability of Resveratrol by an astonishing 4,800%.?BioSNEDS? is a mycofunctional fermentation process that utilizes probiotics, nutritional yeast derived beta glucans, medicinal mushrooms, and natural nonGMO phospholipids that encapsulate bioactive nutraceutical ingredients including resveratrol. The lipid vesicles then form a dynamically adaptable delivery system that can withstand even the most challenging gastrointestinal environments and efficacious delivery to cells.?Most notably, the lipid vesicles are able to form a direct connection with delivery into the lymphatic and capillary beds without encountering the liver’s "first-pass" metabolism known to dismantle active nutraceutical ingredients. As a result of these unique features, BioSNEDS? is the only technology that makes every milligram count. All BioSNEDS? Active Nutraceutical Ingredients are available in emulsions or powders, disperse easily in water, have a neutral taste, and are odorless.?Let’s innovate our way to a healthier future!

Hello Matt - Not certain what you are referring to - while polyphenols are efficacious, are you comparing them to resveratrol's clinical benefits? Also, the absolute bioavailability of polyphenols is generally low, ranging from 1% to 10%. This is due to a number of factors, including: Poor absorption:?Polyphenols are poorly absorbed from the gut, due to their large molecular size and their tendency to bind to other molecules in the gut. Metabolism:?Polyphenols are extensively metabolized by the liver, which further reduces their bioavailability. Gut microbiota:?The gut microbiota can also metabolize polyphenols, which can further reduce their bioavailability. So, if polyphenols are what you are looking for, our BioSNEDS technology could dramatically improve stability, solubility, permeability, bypass liver degradation, etc. of polyphenols. In addition to our ResveraSol, we have over 2 dozen ingredients we applied the technology to including ellagic acid and many others.

Would a resveratrol inhaler be a better delivery method? 1 mg per breath, 5-10 breaths per day? Very controlled delivery with high bioavailability.
