During my initial days at OLX Group, our primary focus was on building and expanding the OLX Autos brand. In pursuit of business growth, our performance marketing team maintained a singular objective: to deliver the necessary leads to the operations team for the business to flourish. I dedicated myself to reviewing each existing marketing channel, campaign, new growth channels and experiments on a daily basis during team meetings, even on weekends. These endeavours yielded positive outcomes in terms of lead generation and conversions. However, after several weeks, the meetings underwent a noticeable shift into silence.
The passionate team members who were once vocal and full of ideas began to withdraw and keep their thoughts to themselves. This transformation raised concerns for me.
It prompted me to engage in a conversation with a senior member of my team to address the evolving dynamics.
Seeking insights from someone I trusted implicitly, who had served as my sounding board for a significant period, was a natural course of action. During our discussion, my team member concurred that there had indeed been a change in the team's dynamics. He shared that some members of the team had even expressed their concerns, admitting that the pace and volume of work had begun to feel overwhelming. The eagerness to share their feeling was tempered by apprehension that this might hinder their learning progress, which was happening during the fast-paced workflow. However, their personal well-being was compromised due to the lack of downtime. It was during this exchange that he conveyed that this sentiment was pervasive among all team members.
Without delay, I promptly scheduled a dedicated meeting with one of the team members, as I had become aware of how deeply this individual had been affected by the new way of working. I extend my #gratitude to this person for openly sharing their feelings during our one-on-one conversation. This exchange proved to be an extraordinary learning opportunity for me as a leader. It provided me with invaluable insights into my #leadership style and enabled me to comprehend the far-reaching implications of our heightened operational demands on the overall well-being of the team.
