Resurrecting #GoalMind – To Be or Not to Be. If Be, then What, When, How, Where?

Years ago, some friends and I embarked on an adventure/mission.?

The adventure began on July 3rd, 1986 as I began a periodic reassessment of my life and #goals.? I was hunting for a software based planning system to remind me lest I forget that I’m here on earth for a much higher purpose than the pursuit of money.

So are you, by the way.

As I thought and prayed on the question, I heard a “Voice” (in my head).

The “Voice” said, “You build it”.

I argued with the “Voice”.? “Do you know how hard this would be, how long it will take?” The Voice and I went back and forth for some time. Eventually...

I lost.

I began with the encouragement of my wife, coding as best a non-coder can.? A new friend, Dale, joined me.? Dale was/is an excellent software developer.? Over time, others joined or supported us and we began a “roll”.

The adventure/mission continued as our partners and I began to create goal planning and achievement software that was better than, yet different from anything else on the market.

·???????? Better, because it addressed all the who, what, why, where, when and how of #goalsetting

·???????? Different because we designed it to frequently remind users that God must remain foremost in a spiritually sound #goal planning and achievement process

·???????? Foremost, because putting God first makes EVERYTHING else fall into place and perspective.?

We named the software #GoalMind, because one's goals ALWAYS begin, execute and end in the mind.?

Constant mental renewal is required of ALL true #success isn't it?

We trademarked the name “GoalMind” along the way; it’s based on Romans 12:2 where Paul encourages you to transform yourself by “the renewing of your mind”.? We secured the URL, GoalMind.net and created a simple download process in 1997.

We gave the software away for a while and learned uncommitted users often didn't leverage the embedded process, because it requires serious soul searching and deep thought.? No skin in the game; not worth the trouble to do the work necessary to take advantage of “the gift".

When we began charging for #GoalMind, we attracted many more downloaders than the free version. Paid users were serious.

Go figure.

We heard from many users they'd never actually thought hard about setting goals and appreciated the detailed thought guidance that accompanied GoalMind.? More often than I expected, we heard, “You should be charging a LOT more for GoalMind”.? Some told me the User Guide that accompanied GoalMind was better than any #goalplanning tome they’d ever read.

By 2004, nearly four thousand people downloaded and used GoalMind.? That same year, my wife died.

Grief is a powerful deterrent to progress.

About the time I'd earned the opportunity to come up for some air, my daughter was killed in an ATV accident.

Again the grief and yadda, yadda, yadda.

I must say though, I still use GoalMind myself.? It’s clunky, but its #Affirmations and thinking process continue to help me through challenging vicissitudes.

Sometime during “the fog of living” Microsoft deprecated the security system upon which GoalMind relied and baddaboom, we had to ask ourselves, “Can we afford to continue this project knowing we’ll have to start from scratch?” ?

For my partners, the answer was no.? For me, the answer was, “it’ll have to wait a while”.

Now I'm retired; I can do anything I want, as long as it doesn’t cost too much.

The "Voice” again beckons me, "What about GoalMind?”

I reply to myself, "Well, what about it?”

Now I’m asking you, ex-GoalMind users or anyone interested in #Godlygoals, what do you think about it?
