Hi everyone. I hope that business and work have been wonderful for you all. Kindly accept my apologies for not having been in touch for some days now.
The apology is freely given, even if not demanded. Courtesy demands it. I should have said something to that effect before now but, I must be honest that I have had my hands quite full re-writing resumes for some professionals in the United States. See attached image.
As a result of the easing of lock-down now, many are in search of opportunities and, others who are in certain positions already are looking for new ones.
Having been a professional who worked at mid-management level, collaborating across the operational structure of several financial institutions including banks and pension fund managers (PFMs), I have been a bit taken aback by the resumes that professionals send in to respond to job ads or, to companies simply to apply for positions.
A resume is a representational document which not only first of all introduces the candidate in terms of his or her name and contact details but essentially is an ice breaker which then must be a piece of document that is a consummate conversationalist thus capable of carrying on a conversation with the HR personnel of the company that the job seeker hopes to secure employment.
It is counter-productive to take the writing of a resume for granted. Too many things are to be considered if the job seeker hopes to have the resume to deliver the intended value which is to secure an opportunity to have a say. That is, to be invited for an interview.
The "Contact" section, "Career Summary" for those with several years of experience or "Career Objective" for those with little or no experience, "Core Competencies", "Experience", "Skills", "Education" and so on.
In addition to the existence of each section in the resume, there is the matter of, not only the use of the right words but, the overall composition.
It is not a matter of subjective preference or interest but, one of the most optimal visual presentation of information, coherence and, presentation of valued information as it concerns the company in search of someone with the capacity to deliver the value that is required.
