Most job seekers only do minor tweaks to their resume, if they make changes at all.
While this works poorly for most job seekers, it's even worse for unemployed job seekers ... it's just not enough.
It's one of mistakes nearly every long term unemployed job seeker makes that keeps them from finding a job.
As an example, I spoke with a long-term unemployed CFO-level job seeker today, who told me he had been searching for 2 years, without success.
So, I asked him 4 questions, to better understand why he was long term unemployed:
Q: How many resumes have you sent out in your 2 years of searching?
A: "At least a thousand, probably more"
Q: What percent of the resumes you've sent have you customized to the job?
A: "Maybe 10%"
Q: When you have customized your resume, what's the average time you've spent customizing it?
A: "I just tweak it a little"
Q: Of the thousand+ resumes you've sent, how many times have you been a finalist?
A: "Just a handful"

Do you see the same issue I saw?
This unemployed job seeker used a strategy of random applications, using an enormous volume of resumes, and hoping he got lucky.
And what's that gotten him? Long term unemployment, a poorly performing job search, and making the same mistakes over and over, while hoping he gets lucky in 45 days, before he gets into financial trouble.
It's Einstein's definition of insanity, doing the same things over and over, while expecting different results.
This is someone who should know better than to just hope he gets lucky, but that's what he was taught to do, it's what he was used to, and even in the face of wrecking his finances.
If this sounds like your resume/job search strategy, you're also doing the same things that bring long-term problems that you don't want and can't afford.
Good thing I teach more effective strategies, than random applications and hoping to get lucky. Want to learn how to find your next job far more quickly, while unemployed?
