Resume Tips To Get You More 2nd Job Interviews

Are there ways to revise your resume to get more 2nd interviews?

You betcha ...

As a recruiter, I see hundreds of resumes daily. But I only contact a few of the applicants I see daily. If I send anything less than the top candidates to hiring managers, I'm not doing my job and ruining my reputation.

Almost all of the resumes sent to me from job postings are standard resume templates, with little or no customization for the job. These resumes get little attention and never get sent to my client. The same thing happens when you send uncustomized resumes to employers - they get stuck in ATS black holes and are almost always seen as non-matching or less than average if they get human review.

Here are some top resume tips to get more 2nd interviews:

1. Heavy Customization: Your best bet is to get inside information about the job, because it's current., and shows you went the extra mile. The job description, company website, and Google search results contain obsolete information, that brands you as the wrong fit. If you don't want to invest time time to get inside information, at least customizing based on an obsolete job description is better than little/no customization.
2. Show You're An Investment: Focus your reader's attention on value, rather than responsibilities/experience. Value shows employers direct return on investment, and helps you overcome issues like unemployment and age discrimination. Responsibilities/experience show readers what you were supposed to do, but fails to show if you actually did it well, poorly or at all ... so they brand you as average.
3. Write For Multiple Audiences: Your resume has 4 different audiences, each looking for different information and looking in different places. Any of these audiences can take you out of the running for jobs. By learning what each audience wants to see and where they search for it, you'll get further in the hiring process more often.
