Resume Tips Coming in Hot

I recently shared some resume tips with a friend seeking to take the next step up in their career, and have summarized them here for anyone who wants a resume that helps them stand out from the crowd.

Top 10% - You want people to see you as a top 10% candidate. Remove anything from your resume that even the most mediocre team member could say, e.g. about how you run meetings, manage processes, etc. Replace with achievements, results, patents, awards, promotions, distinctions, scholarships, top test scores, etc.

KISS Principle - "Keep It Simple." Recruiters look at your resume for 5-10 seconds, then decide yes or no. To make the seconds count, share your target title, and include a punchy greatest hits section at the top to make your best case for this role. Remove the Summary section about how you are a team player, proactive, and hard working. Remove the generic Skills section. Pare down your 8 bullets per job to 2-3.

Results Focus - Make every bullet count, and focus on measurable results. Instead of saying something like, “Managed 4 FTEs to build growth solutions,” try something like, “Led team of 4 to achieve new company record +57% YoY customer acquisition growth.” This highlights both your leadership and top 10% results.

Career Trajectory - Show how you have progressed throughout your career. This can include scope of responsibility, title, movement from individual contributor to manager, to leader of leaders, etc. If you keep your resume to 1 page, trajectory is more obvious.?
