Results as a mean or Result as an end ?? Result is always an end to a mean...an effect to a cause. And so is riddled with uncertainties as applicable to all effects !!
Lets explore a way to reduce uncertainties, take more control and increase the probability of success.
People who are truly result oriented and achieve their results regularly, focus on the process and not on the results. They know, instinctively, that the odds of achieving results are directly proportional to the robustness and rigor of their process.
Conversely, people who do not reach their goal frequently, keep worrying about the outcome, and ignore the importance of process.
This is because putting in place a good process takes time and patience. It requires a midterm to long term view of the results. An ability to see the bigger picture !!
This is in contrast to the present trend of instant gratification. A world around us where people want everything as of yesterday !! A wish for "Instant Results" and "lack of patience" usually prevents us from following a longer but saner path. A notion of quick gain usually makes us blind to the efforts one undertakes to make things look effortless!!
People looking for quick gains are so anxious by the prospect of achieving something quickly that they lose sight of the bigger picture. They waste their energy on things, which they have little or no control on. It is no surprise that they often find themselves in situations totally unprepared, unwarranted and uncalled for.
The trick here is to differentiate between doing a job and doing the job well every time!!
In order to do a job well, focus on the process!!
Focusing on the process removes all distractions. That is how the process works. You will begin to identify what is important and know what is wasting your time. You will start to master certain skills and start enjoying your work. You start taking control over the situation because processes constitute of internal factors which are almost always under your control. In contrast, result depends on external factors as well, and some factors might not be in your control. With more control on the outcome, your confidence will increase and you will enjoy the work and ultimately achieve the results you are after!!
Are you after quick gains by virtue of serendipity or after repeatable finales by virtue of process ?
Avoid the danger of giving up your goals if you are unable to see the results at the moment. Instead, focus on refining the process. Be patient. In the words of Mr. Meyer “Patience is not simply the ability to wait - it's how we behave while we're waiting.” Remember that Rome was not built in a day !!
