What is Modern HMA?
Modern Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) is asphalt strengthened with carbon captured from biogas and natural gas. The solid carbon is sourced directly from Modern's hydrogen production facilities via a proprietary version of thermal decomposition known as methane pyrolysis.
Modern HMA demonstrates significant advancements over traditional asphalt by incorporating captured carbon, which reduces CO2 emissions by using less binder material and permanently sequesters carbon that would otherwise go to the atmosphere, leading to both environmental and economic benefits.
New Performance Data about Modern HMA
Laboratory tests and field trials conducted across six U.S. states revealed that Modern Asphalt products consistently demonstrate a higher performance level than traditional asphalt.??
Laboratory tests provided the following insights into the material properties of Modern Asphalt:?

The asphalt is pushed down a hill, run through a grizzly, and shipped. All county roads are paved with it and are very robust and resilient across all weather. Look into geopolymers or geosynthetics to use in conjunction with natural asphalt. You’ll be way better off. I’ve never seen the energy balance around making any of this stuff, or what I think it makes sense to take a viable fuel product that can be transported on ships and airplanes and sink it into solid ground.. Keep coal and tar sands/natural asphalt for solid use, oil and methane for transportable mobile craft.

Especially when taking Biogas as a feedstock, it will become crucial. #TurquoiseHydrogen can economically only compete against #BlueHydrogen if its ~50% extra Methane feedstock needs can be paid-off by Carbon revenues. Hence, HMA must have a higher price to accommodate Carbon value, than normal Asphalt, usually dead cheap, does. We know that for e.g. composite cement Methane Pyrolysis Carbon is deemed too expensive if accounted at volume specific cost of the matrix. Carbon is a valuable resource, particularly if it’s recoverd from biogene feedstocks for synthesis of petrochemical substitute regenerative commodities - there it’s worth at least 1% a barrel crude oil’s price/kg. Applications include #SAF & virgin #Polyolefins becoming #Renewable materials that way and eliminate their Petro chemical feedstock’s Scope 1 & 2 emissions! #Carbotopia has been into all the Carbon valorization opportunities for its Dry Hydrocarbon Dissoziation by-producing CO2-free #Hydrogen for nearly 20 years . . . . since operating it even industrially already until 10 years ago in one of our team’s predecessor enterprises. OMG, don’t underestimate all the lessons we had to learn!
