What to Know
Gender and Family in the Language Services Sector (2023)
We are pleased to announce that the results from our 2023 pro-bono survey on gender and family in the language services industry is now available. ?? The original study, conducted in 2017, revealed that the industry is above average with respect to gender equality, but also pointed out structural obstacles that some may face in their careers. The follow up study, which was completed by nearly 2,900 people, reveals how the industry has progressed and how factors such as the pandemic have impacted work and family life. Some key findings here.

Interpreting SAFE-AI Task Force's End-User Perception Survey
In a significant step towards inclusive and comprehensive discourse on the role of AI in language services, the Interpreting SAFE-AI Task Force recently released its End-User Perception Survey in ten spoken languages and American Sign Language (ASL). This initiative marks an important stride in understanding diverse perspectives on AI's impact in human communication and language access from those who rely on interpreters in health care, government, education, courts, and for access to other critical services.
The Perception Survey, initially launched in English, has been a crucial tool in gathering insights from end-users of interpreting services. Now, with its availability in multiple languages including Arabic, French, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese, along with ASL, the survey embodies the task force's commitment to embracing a wide array of voices and experiences.
