Last week we shared a poll asking what percentage of employers didn’t offer managers training on how to manage redundancies. Over half that responded voted for 84%, with only 16% of voters guessing correctly.

A survey by WorkNest found that 74% of employers don’t offer line managers training on managing redundancies.

Over the last few months, we have seen more large corporations announcing redundancies, including Klarna, Twitter, and Spotify.

Before beginning any redundancy exercise, speak with our HR consultants and ensure you complete all the correct processes.

We are celebrating women all week in honour of International Women’s Day tomorrow, check out the below statistics of women in the workplace;

The Guardian published an article back in June, sharing scary statistics that women lost work at three times the rate compared to fathers during the pandemic.

Talented and skilful women are leaving the UK workforce due to the cost of childcare.?A survey by pregnantthenscrewed.com indicated that of the 27,000 responding parents, 43% of mothers have been forced to consider leaving their jobs due to childcare costs, and 40% considering reducing their hours.

HOWEVER, it’s not all negative news for women in the workplace!

Last week it was announced that FTSE 350 businesses’ target of 40% women in boards position by 2025 has been reached 3 years ahead of the deadline!

Furthermore, another milestone indicates that women in FTSE 350 companies hold a 3rd of leadership positions.

Continuous progress is being made within the UK private sector!?

Health and safety updates

Disabled safety feature leads to fatality.

The HSENI investigation into the fatality of 17-year-old Neil Graham, leads to £50,000 in fines.

Mr Graham was a trainee mechanic and had been working under a Tractor on the agriculture Engineering business site. Gordon Brown the owner, had turned the tractor on leading to the back right wheel crushing Mr Graham.

The investigation by HSENI found the tractors safety feature for not starting in gear had been previously by-passed and disabled.

All 3 defendants pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches and offenses, and fines totalling £50,000 were given.
