There’s a lot of noise right now about why dental practices are struggling—recession, financial climate, people not having the money to spend. But let’s take a step back. Is it really the economy, or is something else at play?
I’ve been digging into this, and let me tell you—many practices are missing out on patients, not because people can’t afford treatment, but because their front-of-house teams aren’t handling leads effectively.
What’s REALLY happening?
I did some research, calling five dental practices to see how they handle potential new patients. Here’s what I found:
?? Three of them didn’t even answer the phone. No voicemail, no call-back, no way for me to leave my details. That’s a lost patient (and lost income) before they’ve even had a chance to convert.
?? One receptionist took my enquiry but didn’t take my number. Guess what? No one ever called me back. Another lost opportunity.
?? The two that did engage with me refused to give me any pricing unless I handed over my phone number and email first. Now, I get it—you don’t want to give exact costs over the phone, but engagement is key! There’s a way to handle these enquiries that gets the patient booked in, rather than scaring them off.
This isn’t about the economy. This is about training. If your team isn’t equipped to handle enquiries properly, you are throwing money away.
