Reimagine Middle Branch
Parks, projects & programs to connect communities in South Baltimore
Restoring and protecting the shoreline is at the heart of the Reimagine Middle Branch initiative. Here's a roundup of the impactful work accomplished in 2024 to support this vital effort. You can also join us at the Pop-up Ice-skating event on February 8th at Middle Branch Park to learn more! The event is from 1:00 - 5:00pm and we'll have a table about the restoration projects in the boat house from 2:00 -4:00pm.
We celebrated the launch of MBRI – the shoreline restoration arm of Reimagine Middle Branch – on Apr 19, 2024 with community members, stakeholders, and local, state, and federal partners. Construction on the Hanover Street Wetlands is underway and includes removal of invasive species to restore water views along Hanover Street in Brooklyn and utilization of salvaged wood from Camp Small to reestablish natural habitat. https://sbgpartnership.org/middle-branch-resiliency-initiative-wetland-restoration-project-launches-...
MBRI has secured nearly $67 million for design and construction of five projects to enhance flood resiliency, improve water quality, increase habitat diversity, and restore public access to the waterfront. Additional fundraising is ongoing, with over $150 million in grant funding requests submitted in 2024.
Design is nearing completion on three additional sites (Patapsco Delta East, BGE Resiliency Site, and MedStar Harbor Hospital Wetlands). Each is planned to start construction in 2025.
