Joining the Professional Community for Restorative Justice Practitioners Worldwide

"Restorative justice can return conflicts to parties but while doing so we must take into consideration its fluid and adjustable nature. Luckily, there are not many disagreements as to what constitutes the core restorative justice values. However, this is not the case when it comes to its standards, who gets to practise and who doesn’t, what practice to choose and how to certify or accredit."

The Fellowship was born as an idea to establish a diverse pool of approved restorative justice practitioners and services that RJ4All can assign casework, and to facilitate connections between practitioners, researchers, and policymakers. On the other hand, the RJ4All Restorative Justice Practice Framework serves as a cornerstone, outlining legal standards and guiding principles within the RJ4All ethos for practitioners’ effective application.

The Victims and Prisoners Bill: Where Are We and What's Next?

The Victims and Prisoners Bill passed through Parliament on May 24th without properly recognising the role of restorative justice in the victims' healing process or acknowledging their right to know about and choose restorative justice. RJ4All has been actively advocating for the provision of restorative justice in the bill, as highlighted in our Open Letter to Parliament members. Our recommendations were debated in the House of Lords , with follow-up discussions involving both supportive and unsupportive Lords and Baronesses.

Although our recommendations were not included in the revised version of the Bill, the current government had committed to consult on a new Victims’ Code entitlement for victims to be given information about restorative justice services at the point of conviction, so that victims will not only be told about restorative justice when they report the offence but again on conviction. Alongside this, the government pledged to strengthen the mechanisms that oversee whether agencies provide services in accordance with the Victims' Code. RJ4All will campaign to ensure that the government which comes to power after the elections keeps and honours these commitments.?Parliament also?acknowledged our efforts ?to promote restorative justice values and our project to establish the?world's first restorative justice postcode in London.

?RJ4All's commitment to empowering restorative justice practices and ensuring access to these services remains steadfast. We will continue to influence legislative processes through strong evidence collected from grassroots levels and community voices. Our three policy priorities are the Sentencing Bill, the Criminal Justice Bill, and the Victims and Prisoners Bill. This advocacy is not just our voice, but the voice of the community, the victims, and those who support restorative justice.

Madina’s story: how the National Device Bank helped her family ??

Migrant mum and wife, Madina, accessed digital support from RJ4All's Digital Inclusion Hub, which helped them alleviate stress, learn new digital skills, and ultimately settle into their new life.

Madina tells us:

"My family are improving and they have been using the tablet a lot … it’s been very useful for accessing educational resources, including math games.”

?? The Rising Potential of Restorative Justice in Combating Gender-Based Violence in Cyprus and Europe: Ten Years of the Istanbul Convention

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Istanbul Convention, a key treaty against violence towards women. Cyprus, which ratified the Convention in 2017, has since passed laws to combat such violence.?

Restorative justice, despite being discouraged by the Istanbul Convention due to concerns about secondary victimisation, holds the potential for empowering victims of gender-based violence. In some cases, it not only offers victims a platform to voice their experiences and needs, but also promotes healing and empowerment. However, in Cyprus, restorative justice is not integrated into the legislative framework and is limited to community-based initiatives.he Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) website . RADEX addresses the rising threat of violent radicalisation, extremism, and nationalism in Europe by focusing on prevention and education.

Visit the RAN website to learn more about RADEX and the impactful work in counter-radicalisation.?

?? Stay tuned for more updates as RJ4All continues its mission to create safer and more resilient communities!
