The Restoration Industry is Under Siege

The Restoration Industry is Under Siege

It's been happening for years and we just didn't notice.

For years we've been told that WE were the problem. "Contractors are greedy." "Contractors cut corners to make more money." "You make enough money." "MY contractor will do it for that."

Lies.

The reality is that the heat has been turned up on our industry to the boiling point. And it's time to get out of the pot.

The upcoming RESTORATION2.0 SUMMIT is our coming out party. It will be small, humble, and completely game changing for those who attend. The primary purpose of the summit is to bring us together - as an industry.

We are not alone. We are NOT the problem.

Corporate greed is the problem. And our UNITY is the beginning of the solution. We all need to feel empowered to say "NO" to things that are contrary to our core values. We all need to help EACH OTHER if we are to survive.

I have developed this short list of Agreements, which I feel embody the true SERVICE based foundation we need to build on. If we are able to internalize these things, we can build a grass-roots foundation for change.

OUR MISSION: To restore lives and livelihoods when disaster strikes.

Agreement #1: I will protect the value of my services by never giving them away.

I will never provide free (comparison) estimates, as these only serve to erode the value of estimating services industry wide.

Agreement #2: I will practice incredible transparency and honesty in my communications with those I deal with on a daily basis.

I will explain the claims process in detail to my client. I will never hide pricing details or manipulate reports. I will never communicate with an adjuster without also communicating with my client.

Agreement #3: I do not believe in competition.

The Restoration companies in my market are part of my community. I will be an active member of the Restoration community. It is our Unbreakable Unity that will create the change that we strive for.

Agreement #4: I am willing to walk away from any project, client or agreement that is not compatible with my company and personal values and stated mission.

No "relationship", business or personal, is worth taking part in if it requires losing money, sleep or my humanity.

Mr. McCabe, Exactimate rating software is very generous to contractors. Communication between insured, contractor, and adjuster is key to a successful claim. Why must you draw battle lines?

Well isn't that interesting. I've been listening to Contractors bitch for over 30 years and I've yet to see a group come together. I can recall many knock down drag out argument with Ed York. Why? Talk is cheap and it's easier to bitch then it is to pony up some cash and some labor to get involved in a project to Out reach to Consumers.
