Restaurant changes in Historic Folsom

Cheers to another Friday, LinkedIn community. Let's start today's newsletter in Historic Folsom, where the food and drink landscape is changing.

J. Wild's, the barbecue restaurant at 614 Sutter St., had its final day this week. A public filing suggests a pizzeria might fill the space.

That's not the only change happening in the area.

A new cocktail lounge and restaurant called Yager Lodge is filling a spot previously occupied by Escape Folsom at 727 Traders Lane, my colleague Jacob Abbott reported this week. You might recognize the operators of the planned business. Read more

Not too far from Yager Lodge, the future of Mexican restaurant Q'bole appears uncertain.

The landlord of the space at 718 Sutter St. is trying to replace Q'bole, which has operated at the Sutter Street location for a decade. Read more

Speaking of Folsom ...

Local health care systems have their eyes set on the City of Folsom , where four major new projects are either under construction or planning to break ground in the coming years.

When this new wave of construction is complete, however, there won’t be one new hospital bed serving the rapidly growing area.

"Mercy Folsom has been the only acute care provider in the Folsom area for the last 35 years," said Lisa Hausmann , CEO of Dignity Health Mercy Hospital of Folsom. The 106-bed hospital is the only one in the Folsom/El Dorado Hills area — serving a population of more than 130,000.

And that’s unlikely to change in the next few years, despite all the new construction Dignity Health and the other major systems have planned there.

Wondering why? Read this article by reporter Emily Hamann .

Save Mart closing Roseville distribution center

Modesto-based The Save Mart Companies is planning to close its distribution center in Placer County, resulting in a loss of nearly 300 local jobs.

The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the state's Employment Development Department earlier this month stating its Roseville distribution center, which employs 273 people, would be permanently closing. An effective date for the closure was listed as Oct. 12, according to the WARN notice.

Vic's Ice Cream listed for sale in Land Park

A family-owned ice cream parlor that has been a staple in the Land Park community for nearly 80 years has been put up for sale.

Vic's Ice Cream Parlor has operated at 3199 Riverside Blvd. in Sacramento since 1947, opened by co-founders Ashley Rutledge and Vic Zito. For the last several decades, the business has been operated by Rutledge's son, Craig Rutledge, who died in March.

"The family has decided for the legacy of the business and for it to continue, it's best to find someone who is able to provide the local management it needs to carry on," said broker Tricia Bernhardt of Restaurant eXchange, who is listing the business on behalf of the current owners. Read more

Interesting that a "Yagers" is back in town. Congrats to Q'bole's for the possible location change. I hope that means they are growing and need a larger facility!!
