Rest In Peace, John McNamara
Annapolis, Maryland - June 28, 2018 - Five people were murdered at the offices of Capital Gazette yesterday in Annapolis, Maryland. We as a nation are shocked and sadden by this horrific tragedy taking place at a community newspaper offices. The five victims were presented to the media after the "next of kin were notified" by police agencies. Those five families will never be the same.
For me it struck close to home. As a native Washingtonian, I attended high school in Washington, DC at St. John's College High School. One of the victims John McNamara was a classmate and friend of my younger brother Stephen. Both Stephen and John wrote for the high school newspaper The Sabre at the then all male Junior ROTC school. Years later my brother is an editor for a publishing company in Maryland and John was a sports journalist for the 20+ years down the road in Annapolis.
As the families grieve their sudden and explainable loss, I hope they find solace and comfort in knowing each one was loved and their memories will always be cherished. Rest in peace John.

So sorry for your loss, Mike. Journalism is as important a profession today as it has ever been. John was given a very nice tribute on PBS’s Washington Week Friday, in case you missed it.

Mike, sorry to hear on how close you are connected to this tragedy. Although we should never take the shenanigans we incur in our SF neighborhood lightly, these stories put everything in real perspective....Peace
