Rest In Peace... Dad

Today, October 23, 2023, marks ten years since my Dad passed away.

The one who came up with this crazy idea to immigrate to Canada.

He absolutely LOVED Canada from the moment he first visited.

Ten years is a long time but it feels like it was just yesterday.

If you are blessed to still have both your parents alive...

Just know I would do ANYTHING to bring mine back.

One more coffee, one more hug, one more laugh.

He missed out, but we missed out even more.

We are the ones with our empty souls here.

I always thought this happened to others.

My kids, nephew and nieces don't know him.

He didn't get to walk my sister at her wedding.

He missed my wedding by two months, seriously.

He missed on all the stories of people I empowered.

All the people I impacted positively and lives I changed.

No doubt you are always looking down proudly from a star.

I can't say my life has been the same since you left us, no way.

But I can say you have inspired me to make this world a better place.

Dad, you are my inspiration, best friend and hero. Thank you! I LOVE YOU!

May your soul Rest In Peace Sergio Oscar Golod (May 1, 1958 - Oct 23, 2013)

One of the very many lessons my Dad taught me, it accompanies me til this day:

Don't take any shortcuts! When you look back on your journey make sure you are proud of every single step you took.

About me...

I have the gift to be able to change people's lives, and I don't take this for granted.

Any time I can change someone's life I take the opportunity with open arms.

I focus on those I can truly impact positively: immigrants in tech living in Canada or USA who don't have they job they want and deserve.

Tonight, I am guiding a few hundred professionals in honour of my Dad.

Why did I start doing this?

It saddens me to meet so many talented immigrants in tech in Canada and USA who are not living to their full potential because they don't understand the system.

I was one of them.

It took me 15 years to achieve financial freedom.

Yes, I arrived with $0 in my pocket and within a year bought my brand new car (paid half of it in cash), and two years later my first home (20% downpayment).

However, I knew I had so much more potential but was stressed out always worrying about how much money I had in my bank account.

If I ever had an emergency or an extra birthday party it would make a dent on my monthly expenses and potentially even incur on debt.

I knew I wanted to achieve financial freedom without sacrificing my personal happiness, professional fulfillment, and above all my reputation and peace of mind.

I didn't know exactly how I was going to do this but decided to start paying it forward and giving back to society.

How?

By sharing everything I knew so that others could live better.

And this in turn ended up changing my life.

I promise you this...

Achieving financial freedom has nothing to do with time.

I meet unfulfilled immigrants in tech with the necessary knowledge, skills, experience, expertise and education who struggle to live a comfortable life.

However...

They can't explain why they don't have the job they are perfectly qualified for:

  • Many can't land those interviews,
  • While others can't get job offers

Pay attention to this:

Landing interviews and getting job offers is the easy part, anyone can.

What they should be concerned about is how much money they leave behind.

If you'd like to join me tonight in honour of my Dad, let me know, it will be an absolute pleasure to share what I know so you can unlock your full potential.

I am blessed to live the life that I do and would love to know that I have impacted every single immigrant who came with big dreams to actually fulfil them quickly.

Sincerely,

Brian (a fellow immigrant in tech)

So much love goes out to you during this difficult time, my friend. I know that we all grieve differently, but we all experience the pain. Although it does get a bit easier to deal with each day, it never goes away. I know that he is always there with you and I know that you make him proud every day with how you are helping others and the amazing work that you are doing for your community. It's the actions you take every day that leave a legacy that not only he would be proud of, but a legacy that will live on through your children they will be proud of, as well. Much love to you, Brian Golod ??
