Hey, bud.
Thanks for hanging in there over the past couple weeks while I hammered you with posts and emails about Business Class. If you’re still here, you must really like me, so thanks! Today, I’m getting back to my regularly scheduled lexicon and will save the aviation puns for the 1,000+ students currently in flight. If you’re reading this and you’re one of them, boy are you in for a treat!
Ironically, I’m writing this aboard a literal plane, headed to a very damp, very green, and very peaceful place where I’ll be working and living remotely until whenever I feel like going home. I’ve got no return ticket and no plan to book one anytime soon.
I used to say things like “no rest for the wicked” thinking it sounded kind of heavy metal and cool. I identified with it. I went years without rest: a baby boomer in a twentysomething’s body, grinding like it was a recreational sport.
And, on occasion, I still do. Over the past couple of months, between planning and launching, our tiny but mighty team grinded. And ground... lots of coffee (sorry, couldn’t resist).
We strategized. We plotted. We planned. We wrote dozens of emails, website copy, ad copy, social copy, SMS copy, talking points, scripts…and scheduled everything down to the minute.
I posted, I reeled, I storied, I DMed, I TikToked, I tweeted, and I posted on Facebook and LinkedIn. I hosted four live masterclasses, went live on Instagram way too many times, and crashed many a Clubhouse room.
And I’m fried. But a very unique, and sometimes nostalgic flavor of fried: the cracked-out-inspired-grateful-adrenaline-high-wow-we-pulled-off-the-impossible-fried. If you’ve ever started a business, you’ve probably felt it. It’s addicting––and it’s also dangerous.
So, my motto for April? No stress for the wicked. I’ve spent the last hour making a playlist of minimalist instrumental music and I can’t wait to have just a few less words in my life.
Here’s a few songs I’m going to be soaking up:
Johnny Woods: Hematite Terrace
Terry Riley: A Rainbow in Curved Air
Nico Georis: The Spooky Hallway Vine
Wheels up,
Sophia
P.S. If you’re reading this and didn’t enroll in Business Class, I’d love to know why. Mind taking this 2-question survey, purty please?
