In the last quarter, we marked our presence at some of the most important sports and cultural events in the country. We aimed at creating employment for waste? pickers while providing responsible waste management services such as:

• Consultation for best practices in Waste Management - reduce, reuse, recycle
• Collection, sorting, and transportation of waste to responsible destinations for processing and recycling
• Housekeeping
• Dishwashing services to implement reusability to avoid single-use

Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, New Delhi (#VDHM2023)

Continuing our partnership with PROCAM International, we’ve set benchmarks for socially and environmentally responsible sporting events in India. This year the VDHM 2023, saw a whopping crowd of 35,000 people, which was managed for its waste by our 390 workers, trained in working at mass-participation events. Our Co-founder and Director, Marwan Abubaker spoke about the responsible waste management initiatives at a meeting of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation and thanked them for their support in helping maintain clean tracks during the race.

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Bangalore & Kolkata

In a momentous collaboration at the global stage, we proudly joined forces with United Way Mumbai for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. We advised the organizing committee on standard operating procedures to be followed, infrastructure to be made available, nudge posters to be displayed, trained volunteers and housekeeping staff on how to affect segregation at source during the World Cup, leaving an indelible mark on every World Cup match at the prestigious Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.?

Indian Super League 2023, Bangalore

The 2023–24 Indian Super League is the 10th season of the Indian Super League (ISL) and the 28th season of the top-tier in Indian football. In an exciting partnership with JSW Football Club, we ensured waste diversion from landfills for all the Indian Super League match days held at the Kanteerava Stadium. With matchday crowds of approximately 5,000 people and food stalls in place, our expert teams were on-site to maintain clean venues, promote waste segregation, and efficiently transport collected waste for further processing

Echoes of Earth Music Festival 2023

Echoes of Earth music festival takes long strides towards sustainability with each passing year. We’ve been their sustainability partners for six years now and have seen this beautiful festival evolve year on year. This year we also set up an awareness kiosk called “Groove Circular with Echoes” to sensitize the attendees about the significance of waste management, and the role of waste pickers at the event.

Bandland 2023, Bangalore

In what was regarded as an electrifying comeback of rock music to India, we marked our scintillating presence at Bandland, Bengaluru in partnership with Book My Show. Our team of 160 waste workers, and 40 supervisors, including members from our corporate team, stationed themselves diligently across the Embassy Riding Grounds to ensure a spotless venue, and get attendees to segregate waste at source.?

Tata Steel Kolkata Marathon 2023, Kolkata (#TSK25K)

In partnership with PROCAM International and with support from our local partners Disha Foundation, we accomplished yet another successful run of waste management at this iconic race of Eastern India. From 6,588 registrations in the first edition of TSK in 2014 to 17,557 registrations in 2023, the beloved marathon has become a part of the city’s culture and history.

An Encouraging Recognition!?

We won the coveted Sankalp X Artha Impact Circular Economy Award 2023! Krishna, an erstwhile waste picker operating one of the Dry Waste Collection Centres in Bengaluru received the award alongside our co-founders in a ceremony in New Delhi.?

We stand with waste pickers and aim at a quantum change in the quality of their lives as we together innovate circular solutions, green-collar? jobs, and work for a waste-free world - Inclusive Circularity(R) at its best.

Total Waste Management

We offer end-to-end municipal solid waste management services to bulk waste generators in Bangalore. This includes apartments, villa communities, corporate offices, tech parks, etc. With a robust logistics system and an on-ground team of waste pickers, supervisors, and managers, we ensure the daily and timely collection of waste from our clients.?

In the quarter ending December 2023, we diverted 2907 tonnes of waste collected to responsible destinations such as our Biogas plant, Material Recovery Facility (MRF), and in-situ composting facilities. We added 635 new households to our clientele and conducted waste segregation training sessions to onboard them for our services.?

We partnered with Handiman Services, a distinguished name in the ???????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????? committing to implement responsible waste management across their facilities while creating more green collar(TM) jobs.?

Engagements with the Community

WeWork, Bangalore

We participated in the WeWork Sustainability Summit held in October, where we witnessed thought-provoking conversations from people working hard to make sustainable solutions mainstream. Shekar Prabhakar, our CEO and Co-founder spoke on a panel about Navigating Solid Waste Management. We set up a kiosk to highlight our circular economy solutions and social impact and engaged in conversations with all attendees on all things sustainability.?

Saks Fifth Avenue

We conducted a workshop on Responsible Waste Management Practices for a? Circular Economy at the American luxury brand Saks Fifth Avenue’s office in Bangalore. In a session focused on encouraging employees to think about their waste footprint, our co-founder and Director Marwan Abubaker engaged in a highly interactive session about landfilling problems, and ideal methods for segregating waste, while our Marketing Manager Vividha Vyas spoke about the Doughnut Economics model of circular economy.?

TRANSFORM (Unilever, FCDO & EY), Mumbai

We were thrilled to be a part of the Show-N-Tell: Future is Here Event hosted by Hindustan Unilever at their headquarters in Mumbai. Hasiru Dala Innovations has been a part of TRANSFORM’s impact accelerator since 2019. This initiative by Unilever, FCDO, and EY has supported our fair trade supply chain and helped us innovate new projects for the supply of fair trade plastic waste for recycling.

Plastivision 2023, Mumbai

We showcased our work at Plastivision 2023, held in Mumbai alongside our traceability partner SATMA. With SATMA, we provide end-to-end traceability to recyclers and brands who purchase fair-trade guaranteed plastic waste from us. Team Hasiru Dala Innovations spoke about its partnerships with recyclers and brands, and gained insights into various recycling initiatives happening across the world.?

Play for Awareness on Substance Abuse across waste picker communities

In a commendable initiative, the Buguri Libraries team from Hasiru Dala, our NGO partner, organized and staged a play for Awareness on Substance Abuse across waste picker communities. The play shed light on what constitutes addiction, what are the ways to deal with it and how to take help from counselors and psychiatrists.

Conducted at our Material Recovery Facility; and at two waste sorting facilities run by our waste picker entrepreneurs, the play addressed men, women and teenagers. Pramila from Hasiru Dala spoke about the support received from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in terms of training the Hasiru Dala team to conduct such programmes; and also as counseling support.

QShala Sunday Family Quiz

We collaborated with QShala for an engaging quiz on waste management for children from across India. Shekar Prabhakar, our CEO and Co-founder enjoyed hosting this quiz online and interacted with children about waste and waste pickers. With questions on the segregation of waste, recycling, and global campaigns for waste awareness, we had a fun time engaging with the future of tomorrow!
