Responsible use of Hypnosis in Health Care

Responsible use of Hypnosis in Health Care

Today international day of psychotherapy! As Co-President of the task-force with Professor ME Faymonville I am more than proud and satisfied that our Advisory Report 9491 on the responsible use of hypnosis in healthcare has been published today! In this scientific report which offers guidance to the public health policymakers, the superior Health Council of Belgium provides recommendations on the medical and psychotherapeutic use of hypnosis for health care providers.

After several meetings and working together with experts in the field in Belgium we put together plenty of information on hypnosis in health care, publications and research data, we found agreement upon which professionals are eligible for training in hypnosis, on training guidelines, and made an extensive overview on indications, contra-indications and risks in the use of hypnosis. To get hypnosis acknowledged we added research data on different applications, consciousness and the position of hypnosis as a particular state of consciousness.
