Responsible Business Intelligence – It’s all possible, we just need to do it

Last week, I talked about how Responsible Business Intelligence (RBI) delivers sustainable economic growth through the application of AI and BI by responsible businesses, governments and organisations. RBI is about:

• How, as Responsible Businesses, Governments and Organisations, we apply Human Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Business Intelligence (BI) to deliver sustainable economic growth
• Ethics and how the use of AI and BI play out in society
• All of us behind all of the above and all of society affected by it
• Bubbles of technology innovation, productivity and growth we want to be part of
• Echo chambers of stagnant thought processes, polarisation and inertia that we want to escape

I also talked about TechLift.ai, supported by 42 London .? TechLift delivers unique AI & technology reskilling for those that have the enthusiasm to build new tech careers - irrespective of background, skills or experience – to meet the demand for digital economy jobs and tech innovation. Through the application of a peer learning pedagogy and gamified module-based assessment for AI and technology reskilling, TechLift is RBI in action:

• Delivering on the demand for digital economy jobs and tech innovation, in order to deliver sustainable economic growth
• Using AI and BI to transform people's lives and enrich communities
• Investing in the people behind all of the above for the benefit of all of society

• Discovering the diversity required to realise the full potential of AI and technology in society and ensure this is done ethically

42 London have demonstrated that, without any prior qualifications or experience in technology, >50% of all participants on a TechLift Discovery Week will have the aptitude to engage on further technology training from 42 London.? Furthermore, students who go on to further study with 42 London have a 100% success rate gaining a job in the Tech Sector.

‘AI for Good’ Hackathons

Back in May, I wrote about the United Nations ’ year round digital AI for Good platform where AI innovators and problem owners learn, build and connect to help identify practical AI solutions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).? The UN call for Use Cases this year resulted in 219 AI for Good submissions with 53 selected for the final report.? Of these 53 selected submissions, 1 came from the US, 1 came from the UK and only 18 of them had anything to do with Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI (GenAI) or ChatGPT - and yet all 53 are great examples of AI for Good use cases.

In June, I talked about the growing number of 'AI for Good' hackathons emerging around the world – I estimate at least 100 of them delivered or planned in 2024.? Each one of these hackathons brings together more AI for Good use cases, with industry and AI practitioners, to deliver innovation for some of the simplest to resolve as well as some of the most complex challenges society faces.

TechLift ‘AI for Good’ Hackathons

As part of this growing 'AI for Good' hackathon movement, TechLift also runs a TechLift Hackathon series of AI for Good hackathons supported by 42 London .?

The first TechLift Hackathon ran in February this year on “Generative AI: Redefining Education”.? Mentors and judges who engaged for the 2 days included senior stakeholders from: Anthropic , BBC , 波士顿谘询公司 , Braze , Eviden , Cocoa ?? , Evidently AI , IBM and Polecat .? As London’s most disruptive educators, 42 London created a space for TechLift to redefine education and lifelong learning with Generative AI, focusing on: Personalised Learning Pathways, AI-Driven Study Assistants and Interactive Learning Environment Enhancements.

The next TechLift Hackathon - “AI for All”, also supported by 42 London, will run on 22/23 November 2024.

There will be 10 ‘AI for All’ use cases explored in the build up to and during the next TechLift Hackathon in November with impact examples including:

• Citizens Advice: Imagine an AI assistant that instantly connects people with the information they need about housing or benefits, freeing up volunteers to provide more personalized support. This isn’t just a concept—it’s a solution we’ll build together.
• Chayn: In a time of crisis, women can’t wait for legal advice. Our AI solution will generate legal documents like restraining orders and cease-and-desist letters, giving them the tools they need to take immediate action and protect themselves.
• Doing What Really Matters (DWRM): Even without internet access, incarcerated students can engage deeply with their education through an offline AI learning assistant, turning isolation into opportunity.

Each team will have a charity employee + beneficiary participant from the sponsoring?charity as well as AI and full stack experience from 42 London students and industry expert volunteers.
