Responsible AI Spring: A Month of Traversing MENA's Tech Terrain
Hello, everyone!
As the days get warmer, so does our passion for (responsible) innovation, and May has been nothing short of spectacular for our team!
This month our team hopped on the MENA techy-go-round, attending a slew of conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and roundtable discussions all over the region. From Marrakesh to Cairo to Abu Dhabi, we’ve been there, done that, and got the conference badges and lanyards to prove it.
Our team was everywhere, championing responsible AI, fostering cross-sector collaboration, inviting critical discourse, and of course, showcasing our one-of-a-kind AI decisioning platform. We even managed to squeeze in some groundbreaking work at our Abu Dhabi and Cairo offices. Who says you can’t be in two places at once?
But according to the LinkedIn community, perhaps the most spotlight-worthy piece of news was our announcement of the summer internship program at Synapse Analytics. We've received an enormous number of applications that we're now carefully reviewing, and we cannot share the news of newest cohort of interns soon!
But that’s not all! We announced a brand new partnership that’s got the whole tech-community buzzing: Tuum x Synapse Analytics making it official at Seamless Middle East was the crossover episode everyone needed. Another collaboration that's surely straight out of the multiverse is with Subsbase -- content about the modern day Fintech consumer? Yes, please!
At the core of our mission this month was a commitment to Responsible AI. From Aliah Yacoub's 'Masterclass' on the role of startups in realizing Ethical AI, to Mohamed Abaza's contributions to A2K4D's incredible workshop on the matter, it is clear we're here to ensure AI benefits everyone, not just the powerful few.

1. Partnerships and Collaborations
We are excited to announce our new partnership with Tuum! By integrating our advanced AI scoring and decisioning capabilities, we will enhance Tuum’s innovative and personalized banking services.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in our mission to enable better decisioning through artificial intelligence.
Together, Synapse Analytics and Tuum are committed to unlocking new opportunities and delivering a smarter, more customer-focused banking platform.

In other news, we've partnered with Subsbase to launch a new series of content that will dive deep into the needs of the modern-day consumer in the financial industry and sector.This first article aims to set the tone for the series, outlining the main elements that have pushed financial services and banking institutions to move from a product-centric to a more customer-obsessed approach.
The idea behind the partnership stemmed from the fact that both we and Subsbase share a primary use-case: providing tools to allow our clients to better serve their customers. Whether it's Subsbase's recurring revenue platform enabling businesses to efficiently manage collection operations with a flexible, out-of-the-box SaaS solution that supports the full customization of recurring revenue or subscription offerings, or Synapse Analytics' decisioning platforms that allow financial institutions to create a personalized experience for their customers from onboarding to decisioning.

This month, Synapsers ventured through MENA's varied terrain, attending a slew of conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and roundtable discussions from Cairo and Abu Dhabi, to Marrakesh and Riyadh.

We certainly like being two places at once! May started with CEO Ahmed Abaza, COO Galal ElBeshbishy, GM Ahmed Nabih taking part in EC Africa, Morocco; at the same time, Commercial Head Marwan Eleskandarani and Head of Growth Mohamed Abaza were exploring the latest Fintech trends at Dubai FinTech Summit .
Shortly after, in Cairo, Ahmed Abaza dazzled at Tech Connect with a presentation on how to integrate GenAI into products, and Ahmed ElGarem shared his insights on 'The Art and Science of Data Visualization' at Information Technology Industry Development Agency, ITIDA 's TIECnovation Talks.
Then, after making a splash at Seamless, the team engaged in vibrant discussions about the future of tech over the course of 2 days at Techne Summit. Shady Fanous and Mohamed Abaza moderated a roundtable discussion, while Marwan Eleskandarani joined the panel 'Fuelling the Job Market for Export and Local Development' and shared his insights on the need for a cultural fit to effectively harness AI’s potential to create more jobs.
3. Synapsers for Responsible AI: Aliah Yacoub's 'Masterclass', Mohamed Abaza at A2K4D workshops
Synapse is known for spearheading the first platform in the region dedicated to fostering critical dialogue about AI's socio-ethical considerations: techQualia. So it comes as no surprise that our AI Philosopher and tQ head Aliah Yacoub would be giving out 'masterclasses' on how startups play a pivotal role in ensuring that AI technologies are not only technically proficient but also socially and ethically sound.

We're also thrilled to share that our Growth Manager Mohamed Abaza took part in the MENA Observatory on Responsible AI 's workshop: "Towards a Responsible AI Tool for SMEs".
Organized by the Access to Knowledge for Development Center at the AUC School of Business (as the Middle East and North Africa Hub of the?Fair Network hashtag#FeministAI (f<a+r>r Project) in collaboration with Dr. Marwa Soudi at AUC Tahrir Campus, the workshop serves as a practical resource that enables SMEs to identify areas of improvement and implement responsible AI practices within their organizations.
Our line of work allowed us to understand early on the necessity of having an infrastructure that enables us to build models that are well-governed and monitored. This led to the team building our own MLOps tool in-house to mitigate all the risks associated with AI deployment. This workshop has highlighted the gaps that must be addressed to ensure that we are functioning in an ethical and responsible manner in our current state and moving forward.
This important discussion brings together relevant stakeholders to explore challenges and opportunities for utilizing an AI tool that empowers small and medium-sized businesses while adhering to ethical principles.
