Responsibility - Part 4

Responsibility - Part 4

Dorrit K. : “Responsibility takes me back to when I was a very active ‘people pleaser’. I took on the responsibility of everyone and everything around me because I thought I was helping them. That didn't work so well. My husband didn't like going to parent meetings and doing the volunteer work that is expected at school, so I also took on that job even though I worked a job outside of our home.

I worked at a pet shop and did ‘such a good job’ that my boss stopped re-hiring other workers when someone quit. He lived 5 minutes away from the shop and yet I’d be the one to go back if I wanted to make sure I hadn’t forgotten to do a certain task, which added up to an extra unpaid half-an-hour for me. He’d also hide dirt or straw and then say I had missed cleaning it up. That was crazy making. Talk about gaslighting!

I don't do people pleasing anymore and it's so liberating. It feels so good every time I hear myself saying, 'No, that doesn't work for me'.?

So shifting responsibility and delegating have been really good. I highly recommend it!”
