A Responsibility To Make A Difference
Towards the end of his life, Dr. W. Edwards Deming said, “I’m doing this because I have a responsibility to make a difference.” We all have the same responsibility, and making a difference reminds me of a saying I first heard from Barbara Kemp some time ago, she was my manager at the time when she said “an ounce of difference is worth a pound of same”.
In the current pandemic, we can see the evidence of our interconnection to others on this planet, and the need for us to manage our way out of the crisis. It is no coincidence that the title of one of Dr. Deming’s books was “Out of The Crisis”, recently published in a 3rd edition. This leads me to share something I hope will make a difference for you.
Because of our closely connected world, I’ve been privileged to communicate with Dr. Henry R. Neave, author of The Deming Dimension. Most recently our conversation and cooperation have focused on bringing new gifts of learning from Henry to the internet and with the help of Mr. Josef Pishek, we are hosting Henry’s latest contribution to making a difference for the world in crisis.
12 Days to Deming is an active learning course that Henry has developed to be useful to newcomers—there is genuinely “no previous knowledge required”. It is not a superficial introduction to Dr Deming’s teaching. It is a deep dive into the Deming System of Profound Knowledge? and there is much more to do than just reading! The material includes considerable guidance and help with timing.
The course is designed for individual study, and is useful for small study groups. Through the web, it is available to print out or view on-screen. To seriously engage in the “active learning” you will need to print out some of it as the activities and projects are designed so you can write directly onto the course material.
Not surprisingly, the prescribed supplemental text is his book The Deming Dimension, the content is largely developed in the order as Dr Deming developed it in his own learning and teaching. From Day 6 onward, there is increased emphasis on relating the learning from the course with our own organization. This develops a vital link to the thinking needed to put the theory into practice.
Henry’s desire is to make the learning available in 12 Days to Deming easily accessible and free. There are no fees or commissions for its use. Follow this link to access it online and receive all the course content.
Like Dr. Deming said, “I’m doing this because I have a responsibility to make a difference.” So do we all, and I am privileged to host this content for Henry, for you, for the learning that comes from the science of improvement.
Feel free to contact me here on LinkedIn, at my email, [email protected] or by phone at 1-517-285-5500 if I can help you make a difference. You may also simply contact Henry Neave directly at [email protected].
Best Regards, Dennis

4 年I wonder how many people say "It sounds great! I'll do it when I have 12 days free." ? Perhaps if Muilenburg had been jailed for his Six Sigma Stupidity cost cutting, that cost millions, and killed hundreds, people would pay attention. Instead he was sacked and given $60M for incompetency. The quality world is in a bigger crisis now than ever, thanks to the destructive forces of Six Sigma Stupidity. The world needs Deming.
