Responsibility for community
Franklin County Data Center (FCDC)
Technology solutions that build trust in local government services
Denise Roberts leads the FCDC team supporting key applications like OnBase, DocuSign, and our new Atlassian apps for partners. She’s also responsible for the livelihoods of 13 people working in a restaurant she co-owns with a
friend, and another 7 working in the barber shop she started with her late husband.
To say Denise is a good steward of her time and talents would be an understatement. So how did she learn so much and develop our “Responsible” Core Value?
Growing up in Columbus around 7 brothers, Denise saw a lot of life choices that didn’t always work out. So when her father offered some sage advice—“You’ll pay for what you don’t know”—she took it to heart.
Denise became a keen student of the world around her. She learned carpentry from her uncle. She learned about construction from her mother, who worked on the I-670 project. She learned logistics at NetJets and developed data analytics skills—always getting closer to understanding the world through observation. Unlike so many of us who sometimes learn things the hard way, she discovered, “I don’t have to touch it myself to realize it’s hot.”
After 7 years at FCDC Denise continues to learn, but now she teaches, too. She demonstrates Responsibility by applying her powers of observation and leadership to build better teams, businesses, partner capacity, and ultimately make a difference in our community. As Denise has observed, “We don’t all get there on our own.”
That’s why she’s here. That’s why we’re here, too.
