Responsibility and Candor

Tuesday, November 24, 2020 is Day 38 of the Countdown. This Countdown is 42 days until 2021 and somewhat of a launch into my next longer Vision.

Day 42, I focused on Generosity. Days 41 and 40 focused on Thankfulness and Trustworthiness. Day 39, today at the time of this writing, centered on Helpfulness and Service. Through it all, and as noted, I have come to the following personal decisions. For these next 6 weeks and beyond into 2021...

• The Single Parent Association locally will get money, this Christmas; and my ongoing material and spiritual treasury as I can do so through the Year.
• My inner circle of closest confidantes (my Camelot) will get much deserved Appreciation expressed.... and I will seek daily to be a source of smile, ear, Kindness, support and encouragement as best I can.
• And, I have decided that for 2021 and forward, from me as an Educator and Entrepreneur, Skills Canada NL and CBDC NL will receive added interest in my bringing any skill or knowledge I have. I am truly deeply thankful for my connection to both organizations and seek to be that friendly and trustworthy face and hands of Service. In so doing, I will be that source encouragement with students, staff, volunteers and entrepreneurs.

Now, moving forward on this Countdown and exploring my new adopted Code, I reflect on...

• "Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer to the cry of the needy..."

First, let us address "admonisher".

Yesterday in considering "treasure", we noted that it was "something of great worth or value". By being a treasure, we must needs treasure. We must needs see value.

To admonish is to indicate duties or obligations as advice or warning. It is not about judgement nor condemnation. It is about strong guidance and even warning, caling ourselves and others to our Responsibility. But, being a treasure, an admonisher and an answerer all speak to Responsibility.

Admonishing Myself

Responsibility is our ability to respond. With a world that so seems focused on rights, we too often forget that the two powerful wings of a society and civilization are rights and responsibilities. Being a "treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer to the cry of the needy..." is Responsibility at school, work, business and community. And I choose to admonish myself on this now.

With Responsibility, we are called and get to call others to a nobler purpose. I do that now with my own self. It is not about shaming myself. It is about calling my sense of that Self to something better and higher.

That said, it is not all on our very own shoulders. But, we must needs play our role. So, as I count down, I revise and update those decisions above. For these next 6 weeks and beyond into 2021...

• I have decided that for 2021 and forward, from me as an Educator and Entrepreneur, Skills Canada NL and CBDC NL will receive added interest in my bringing any skill or knowledge I have. I am truly deeply thankful for my connection to both organizations and seek to be that friendly and trustworthy face and hands of Service. In so doing, I will be that source encouragement with students, staff, volunteers and entrepreneurs.

• And, in my work and life, I will serve those who serve... the Leaducators, Communitrepreneurs and Emergents... the world embracing educators, social entrepreneurs and emerging leaders who serve Justice and community. In so doing, I will remind and champion the noble calling of enterprise in the face of a dying sense of greed. I will do my constructive best to admonish as Educator and Entrepreneur.

This will demand Candor...

Candor commands attention by its being real, assertive, and truthful. Being a "treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer to the cry of the needy..." demands it. With that in mind, my clarity is...

• Going forward, The Single Parent Association will get my ongoing material and spiritual treasury as I can do... my Camelot will get much deserved Appreciation ... Skills Canada NL and CBDC NL will receive added interest in my bringing any skill or knowledge I have ... and, in my work and life, I will serve those who serve... reminding myself and others on the noble calling of enterprise.

For me, this is quickly becoming a more clear and palpable sense of on-the-ground Generosity, Thankfulness, Trustworthiness, Helpfulness, Service and Responsibility and I like it, love and want some more of it.

I will sharpen the blades on same over these days, building new commitments and habits.

So, my question to you is how can you be that treasure to the poor, admonisher to the rich, and answerer to the cry of the needy? How can you forge new habits and commitments heading into 2021 that serve and lift.

Responsibility and Candor. The world and our corners of it need them to move forward together, stronger. We each get to reach for them and it.

Onwards to 37...

To this day and beyond, I try my darnedest to honor his spirit with my own work. That is another story. But I hope I did him service here.
