Responding to the Spring Budget - Prof Adrian Bull
Dalton Nuclear Institute
We bring together the UK's largest academic nuclear research capability
Prof Adrian Bull MBE, Hon FNucI , BNFL Chair in Nuclear Energy and Society, Dalton Nuclear Institute , 英国曼彻斯特大学 , responds to the Spring Budget:
"The Chancellor’s words on nuclear give a positive message, but it’s more like a 'greatest hits' compilation from the past, rather than anything new.
"Confirming nuclear’s environmental credentials will certainly help attract investment – but it’s only stating the obvious. Nuclear is as low-carbon as renewables and should always have been treated that way.
"This isn’t the first time the government has promised the launch of Great British Nuclear (GBN). And a similar scheme to?hold?“the first competition for small modular reactors (SMRs)” was announced by George Osborne in 2015.?
"We’ve heard positive words before. What we need to see now is action.?
"I hope today’s announcements will finally be the catalyst for a clear plan of what GBN will do, and a serious commitment to investment in new?nuclear technologies."

1 年My thoughts were the same: GBN and SMRs have been "launched" enough times already - less launch, more flight time!
Experienced nuclear sector professional, now focused on the complex relationship between nuclear energy and wider society, in all its forms.
1 年For context to my remarks about George Osborne’s earlier SMR competition, I’ve dug out the specific wording.
