The idea of Influence has gained notoriety over the past decade, largely because social media has created a space for people to expedite success.
In the past, people had to earn respect and gain experience before credibility blossomed.? It would be hard to get a “book deal” or “television appearance” just because we took “snap shots” in Bora Bora in our bikini.
Times have changed, and with a little finesse and consistency people can leverage the power of social media to accomplish remarkable things.
Ironically, that doesn’t change the complexion of their “influence”, but it can create the “perception” of influence.
Large followings and massive engagement have become the barometer for what constitutes success on social platforms.
The chorus of people claiming vanity metrics don’t matter live in denial because they’ve failed to resonate with audiences that have limited attention and high expectations.
Like it or not, attention matters, and little attention creates limited opportunities.
However, has the idea of “real influence” changed?
Regardless of how we define it, influential people have certain characteristics that set them apart and long term success and genuine impact requires legitimate influence.

Original
Influential people don’t follow trends and get wrapped up in stumbling along with the crowd.? They think for themselves and exercise caution and self-discipline.? They recognize bad ideas that lack efficacy and question everything carefully.? They have great judgement, and they rely on powerful intuition and rational thinking.??
Unconventional
Influential people are pioneers and willing to take calculated risks.? They experiment and explore their curiosities and remain ten steps ahead of the competition.? They have creative instincts that are astute and conceive new ideas effortlessly because they are constantly in flow.? Because they are incredibly authentic, they also have fresh ideas that inspire copycats and emulators.??
Inspire
Influential people inspire conversations that trigger great discussions which encourage more questions and greater understanding.? They don’t just recite information they gained from Goggle, they create original ideas and challenge people to think.? They inspire us by example and have a unique way of presenting thoughts that make us think.???

Influential people develop strong relationships and value the importance of substantive connections.? They don’t drift through life establishing loose relationships based on superficial attachment, they invest time in cultivating strong bonds.? Act
Influential people don’t wait around for opportunities to fall into their lap, they create their own.? They don’t wait around for politicians to solve their problems or bad bosses to recognize their contributions.? They embrace every opportunity that paves the wave for improvement, and they act on their dreams.? Influential people live in a world of opportunity and abundance.? They don’t create limitations based on inaction, they forge ahead and eliminate barriers.???
Confident
Influential people are confident, and their confidence is genuine.? We can’t create confidence by faking success on social media.? Social media is a great place for people with genuine expertise to offer their insight, but it’s also a place where most people pretending to be experts can put on grand productions.? Imposters are prolific and finding genuine influence isn’t easy.? Confident people pull us in because their message is predicated on wisdom and a track record of success.???
Innovate??
Influential people aren’t wrapped up in reacting to life events, they respond with conviction and purpose.? They have strong beliefs in their ability because they've been tested over time.? They innovate with finesse and perspicacity.? They don’t get wrapped up in the emotional energy that makes most people impotent, they stay cool and look for solutions.? They are positive and optimistic, and their energy is contagious.
